Ultimate Spider-Man Character Finally Gets a Perfect Codename: Venom

In the early stages of Ultimate Spider-Man‘s superhero journey, one of his supporting characters has finally been given an alias, which was much needed. We’re currently in the second year of Marvel’s revamped Ultimate Universe, and the initial crossover for this imprint centers around Miles Morales, a character who originated from the Ultimate Universe. The young Spider-Man and The Maker are the sole survivors from their world, with The Maker playing a role in transforming this new Ultimate Universe to his ominous liking. Prior to being incarcerated, The Maker bestowed Miles Morales with a teleporter to this realm, and now he and his baby sister find themselves stranded here. Fortunately, the Spider-Men are present to offer assistance, and their initial encounter leads to someone receiving a well-known moniker.

WARNING: Spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1 below.

Title #1 of “Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion” hails from the creative minds of Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, Jonas Scharf, Edgar Delgado, and VC’s Cory Petit. This issue finds Miles Morales and his baby sister Billie transported into the Ultimate Universe. Here, Miles crosses paths with Peter Parker and his teenage son Richard, who are patrolling as Spider-Men. However, before Miles gets to meet Peter and Richard, they first encounter the malevolent villain known as Spot, who originates from “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”.

It seems that Spot has obtained one of Tony Stark/Iron Lad’s recruitment packages sent to potential heroes in The Ultimates. In Peter Parker’s package was a radioactive spider and a picotech suit, which Spot now wears. As Spot gains the advantage, Miles emerges through a portal and defeats the villain. The trio of Spider-Men then greet each other before soaring through the city together in search of Billie. Meanwhile, Miles shares information about the entire multiverse with his fellow Spideys.

I was taken aback when I found out Peter had been Spider-Man for just over a year and a half. Richard joined the scene only a few months ago, and he inquired if there was another version of him in my universe – you know, the one called Venom. Now, I don’t claim to be best friends with that guy, but here’s the truth: I don’t really know him that well…

Richard seemed impressed by my composure, considering we’re roughly the same age. Yet, what I shared with him was more than just a casual conversation – it was a secret identity for Richard to keep under wraps. It turns out his father is Spider-Man, making Richard an official Venom in our world.

Venom Officially Enters the Ultimate Universe

The PicoTech is a modern twist on the Black Symbiote Suit and comes equipped with an AI system that reflects Peter Parker’s character (including the signature Spider-Man self-dialogue). At the start of his web-slinging venture, Peter initially wore it but eventually switched to an organic suit. During their captivity by Kraven the Hunter, Harry Osborn/Green Goblin and Peter were rescued when Richard put on the PicoTech suit to take up the mantle of Spider-Man. Since the suit embodies Peter’s persona, it takes on a sense of duty towards Richard, ensuring his safety while teaching him the ways of heroism.

In upcoming episodes of “Ultimate Spider-Man,” it’s clear that Richard will join forces with his father against Wilson Fisk/Kingpin’s group, the Sinister Six. This means we can expect a showdown between Spider-Man and Venom against the Sinister Six. Interestingly, Richard has developed a close relationship with Felicia Hardy, who now carries on her father’s legacy as the Black Cat. It seems a romantic involvement is brewing, but things could get tricky given that their fathers are on opposite sides of the law. The only mystery left for our new Venom is when we’ll encounter Ultimate Eddie Brock.
