This time around, Tom Read Wilson from Celebs Go Dating is appearing on-screen once more, but instead of manning the agency’s reception, he’s embarking on a classic European sightseeing journey.

As a cinephile, here’s my take:

“Number five on my list is ‘The Grand Tour,’ a three-part travelogue led by the charismatic Tom Read Wilson. Instead of modern-day wanderlust, we step back in time to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Back then, it was all the rage for well-heeled British families to send their youngsters on a cultural odyssey through Europe – a sort of ‘right of passage’ for the aristocracy.

In a distinctive manner that’s all his own, Tom Read Wilson plans to carry on the tradition, capturing the historical and cultural flavor of times past.

During his Grand Tour, Tom learns the art of fine dining and etiquette from a Parisian Countess, who is related to Marie Antoinette.

In the course of his journey towards enlightenment, he’ll not only have to learn fencing and sculpting but also other physical skills, much like what youngsters might pick up, as well.

On his journey from Paris to Rome, he will traverse the challenging Alpine passes, then reach Venice where he’ll wear a glittering mask for the renowned Carnevale di Venezia, an event not to be missed by Grand Tourists – offering a chance for the upper classes to indulge in decadent pleasure. After that, he’ll adjust his collar and proceed to the art galleries of Florence, as well as admire the architectural marvels of Rome.

Over time, various editions of major tours have been presented to spectators, but Prime Video’s The Grand Tour has ventured away from its original foundations.

As a devoted admirer, I must say that while the adventures of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May often felt like a global expedition, Tom Read Wilson’s upcoming journey promises to be more about immersing in local art and culture, rather than just the thrill of travel itself.

Intriguingly, throughout this three-part series, Tom intends to capture his adventure using a Super 8 camera. This approach provides a contemporary viewpoint on the evolution of culture, history, and transformation spanning over four centuries.

While shooting this series, Wilson expressed: “The journey of the Grand Tour is brimming with charms in various forms: romantic, artistic, naturalistic, and gastronomic!

This journey I’ve yearned for years, I’m now fortunate enough to tread upon it. It’s an exciting historical odyssey across the continent that I’ll be setting sail on with five companions.”

“A path I’ve dreamt of walking has finally become a reality. I’m thrilled beyond words, as I prepare for this epic cross-continental adventure with five others.

Simultaneously, Kit Morey, the Commissioning Editor for Unscripted Content at Channel 5, expressed his pleasure saying, “We’re thrilled to present The Grand Tour featuring Tom Read Wilson to our Channel 5 viewers.

As I delve into this enchanting series, I can confidently say it masterfully combines the intrigue of historical investigation with the richness of cultural experiences. With Tom’s unique charisma and thought-provoking narration, this exploration of leisure travel history is undeniably a novel and compelling point of view.
