The DC Universe will officially start in full swing once James Gunn’s Superman premieres in cinemas. After a six-year hiatus from solo films, the Man of Steel is ready to dive headfirst into the action, battling adversaries such as Lex Luthor and Ultraman. Whether he can handle the challenge alone remains uncertain, but there are other heroes ready to lend a hand, like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific. Superman isn’t shy about accepting help, especially when he trusts his allies’ integrity. If given the choice, however, he would prefer joining forces with his family, as it seems to keep expanding.

In the series “Superman & Lois,” which concluded on The CW towards the end of 2024, it’s shown that Clark Kent and Lois Lane have children who inherit their father’s powers and embark on superhero adventures, much like him. Although it seems that the DCU’s Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, isn’t ready to commit to a domestic life at this point, he does have Krypto as his companion. However, Krypto isn’t the only member of the El family destined for the DCU.

Approximately one year following the premiere of “Superman”, the DC Universe’s upcoming cinematic venture, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“, is set to hit theaters. After a short break, Kara Zor-El will reappear in live-action, with Milly Alcock stepping into her role. With excitement building for the appearance of two Kryptonians together on screen, fans are already creating their own fan art.

The artwork beautifully portrays the relationship between the two characters. Though she was born before him, the ship Kara is found aboard as Krypton explodes, keeping her in a state of stasis for a significant period. This allows her cousin to surpass her in terms of maturity. However, he remains playful at heart, evident by his smile as he witnesses his partner showing off her strength. The artist adds an extra touch by attributing the image to Jimmy Olsen and featuring it in a fictitious edition of the Daily Planet.

The artwork perfectly showcases the bond between the characters, with Kara, though older, being found in suspended animation aboard a spaceship when Krypton explodes, allowing her cousin to grow up faster. Despite his youthful spirit, he’s seen smiling as he observes Kara flexing her muscles. The artist adds an interesting twist by claiming that the image was created by Jimmy Olsen and publishing it in a fake Daily Planet newspaper.

It’s understandable that many fans are eagerly anticipating a meeting between Superman and Supergirl, given they’re both set to have their own films initially. This might suggest that a team-up isn’t imminent, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility entirely. Even if we don’t see them together for several years, there’s still potential for them to feature in the same project down the line.

Supergirl and Superman Could Make Their DCU Debuts At the Same Time

Gunn is being secretive about any surprises in the Superman movie, given that it’s the first film in the DCU. He likely wants to avoid setting expectations too high or low. However, he has confirmed that his new project will utilize post-credits scenes to keep viewers engaged for as long as possible. In his time at Marvel Studios, Gunn was known for using tag scenes to resolve jokes or initiate new ones. While Superman doesn’t seem to have the same comedic tone as the Guardians of the Galaxy films, there is a possibility that its post-credits scenes might aim for laughs instead of shocking reactions.

If the movie hints at future events, it’s probable that “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” will be the recipient, given its upcoming release schedule. James Gunn might depict Kara’s spaceship touching down on Earth or even reveal Supergirl’s activities in space, as the comic book story for her solo movie spans across galaxies. In any case, Supergirl’s appearance would set the stage appropriately, and fans would be a step nearer to witnessing them fighting villains together.

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
