Fans got a fantastic first glimpse of Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm igniting in a promotional image for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The abilities that Quinn’s character exhibits have been hinted at in the film’s official trailer, with his pursuit of Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer being the most striking example.
In a poster advertising “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, Johnny Storm as depicted by Quinn takes center stage, showcasing the character’s astonishing abilities in an up-close view that fans can appreciate. The unveiled picture additionally invites comparisons of the design for Quinn’s version of the Human Torch with other renditions previously presented.
In the promotional image (released during Marvel and Snapple’s partnership), Joseph Quinn’s portrayal of Johnny Storm is donning the authentic Fantastic Four suit. It seems like he might be igniting, as the bottom part of his body is enveloped by flames.
In the image, the flames emanating from Johnny appear to be more intricate than they did in the trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” (It’s worth noting that his powers made quite an impression on many viewers, and one reason stood out particularly in the trailer.) Unlike the trailer, where he seemed like a tiny orb of energy similar to the sun, the footage released shows Johnny with flames that are more detailed.
Instead of depicting detailed fires leaping from his garment upwards, the trailer presented him more like a glowing coal with a radiant white-yellow glow tracing its path behind him.
As I watched the exhilarating trailer for this upcoming film, I couldn’t help but notice the striking aerial shots. While these sequences were undeniably impressive, it’s crucial to keep in mind that they featured characters soaring through the air. In the final version of the movie, there might be additional details added to these scenes, or even tweaks to the color grading for optimal viewing experience.
In the trailer, the Human Torch appeared to have a design that resembled the character as portrayed by Chris Evans in the 2005 “Fantastic Four” movie and its 2007 sequel “Rise of the Silver Surfer.
In those films, the portrayal of the character by Evans was noticeably a deeper shade of orange with only occasional bursts of fire emanating from him.
In contrast to Evans’ portrayal, Quinn’s depiction of Johnny Storm in the First Steps trailer boasts eyes more faithful to the comic’s appearance, being a vibrant yellow compared to Evans’ version which appears to be normal eyes with some editing. Unlike Quinn’s character, Evans’ still shows signs of pupils, iris, and white areas in his eyes, while Quinn’s eyes are completely yellow. Nevertheless, their overall designs seem quite similar in other aspects.
In the comics, the Human Torch’s eyes resembled Quinn’s more than Evans’, but in the movies, his appearance has mostly stayed consistent, mirroring the look of the comic book character.
In the comic books, Human Torch is known for his glowing eyes and fiery red body. However, in this particular adaptation by Quinn, while the character possesses the glowing eyes, his appearance leans towards an orangish tone rather than a true red body.
Despite receiving negative feedback and being considered not the best representation of the Fantastic Four, the 2015 film version of Fantastic Four boasted a Human Torch character that was truer to the comics in terms of appearance.
Beyond just having luminous eyes as portrayed by Michael B. Jordan in his role as Johnny Storm, his skin was noticeably reddish too. It’s noteworthy that compared to Chris Evans’ interpretation, this version of the character appeared to have more flames emanating from his body.
A well-known depiction of the character that a lot of enthusiasts may recognize is the playable video game version in Marvel Rivals. In Marvel Rivals, Johnny was portrayed with flames encircling his arms and legs, yet not entirely ablaze all the time; parts of his body appear normal instead.
Additionally, it’s noteworthy that the flame atop his head appears to symbolize his hair instead.
The Snapple promotion’s depiction of Quinn’s character, Johnny Storm, resembles more closely the comic book version compared to how he appeared in the movie trailer. This suggests that the film’s version of Johnny might have a slightly different appearance when it is finally released. It could be that the promo image was a highly detailed photograph that was skillfully edited for maximum visual appeal, but there’s also a chance that the character will appear differently in the completed movie.
On July 25, 2025, the movie “The Fantastic Four: Initial Journey” is set to premiere in cinemas. This will mark the commencement of Phase 6 within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film will feature Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Julia Garner in prominent roles.
Has Marvel Showcased Other Characters’ Powers from Fantastic Four?
In the trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, we briefly caught a glimpse of Johnny Storm’s abilities. However, a Snapple advertisement offered a more compelling presentation of his powers. Now, fans can clearly see these powers in high-definition detail.
It’s worth mentioning that Johnny wasn’t the only hero involved in that collaboration; Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, who hasn’t been spotlighted much in the movie promotions, also played a significant role. In the footage released so far, her force fields have been seen but not her invisibility powers. However, a Snapple promotion showcased her invisibility for the first time with promo images that highlighted this ability.
It’s noteworthy to mention that fans have gotten a sneak peek at Galactus’ appearance in the forthcoming movie, as his complete design has been unveiled over the last several days.
With many key characters already showcased in trailers, posters, and various advertising, it’s reasonable to expect that we may not see much fresh content from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” until its theater release.
There might be additional TV advertisements, possibly another trailer, and perhaps a special preview on Disney+ similar to what was done for Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World. However, it’s unlikely that Marvel will reveal much more at this point.
