As an avid anime fan who has longed for the day when my favorite Japanese franchises would grace the hallowed grounds of Universal Studios, I can hardly contain my excitement! After years of watching Universal Studios Japan host incredible anime events, it feels like a dream come true to finally see two major shonen series, One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen, making their way to California.
On egmr.ru, we’ve been detailing Universal Studios Japan and their anime events for a while now. We’ve often been envious because these attractions seemed to be exclusively in Japan and not coming to North America. However, we have great news! Anime is finally coming to Universal Studios Hollywood, and two significant shonen series will be part of the Western amusement park in 2025. The Universal Fan Fest Nights event is anticipated to be one of their largest, and these anime additions are expected to make it even more spectacular.
It’s no surprise that powerhouse anime series like “One Piece” and “Jujutsu Kaisen” have held significant influence in the anime community worldwide. Consequently, these two popular anime franchises are poised to make their debut in California at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 25th, 2025, with a scheduled stay until May 18th, 2025. Although this may not signal a permanent presence of anime within Universal Studios Hollywood, it’s an encouraging indication that the medium is steadily gaining traction in North America.
Universal Studios Hollywood x Anime
The Universal Fan Fest Nights, modeled after their popular Halloween Horror Nights event, is set to debut. This unique, ticketed event will be a thrilling adventure for guests of all ages, immersing them in the captivating realms of sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, anime, and cosplay. The event will feature original and engaging experiences based on these themes, bringing the worlds of One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Star Trek(TM), Back to the Future, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, and a new lineup from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter(TM) to life. Similar to Halloween Horror Nights, all experiences will run concurrently across the theme park each night of the event for guests to enjoy.
Universal Studios Hollywood detailed the attractions that both Straw Hat Pirates and Jujutsu Tech will offer within the theme park.
- One Piece: This experience is inspired by the long-running global hit anime series, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, and follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew on their epic quest to find “One Piece,” the legendary treasure of the former King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.
- Jujutsu Kaisen: This experience is also inspired by the widely popular Japanese manga and its anime adaptation follows high school student Yuji Itadori after he accidently become the host of a powerful curse and joins Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses.
Universal Studios’s Anime History
Previously, it was noted that Universal Studios Japan has been home to numerous attractions based on popular anime series. Recently, they have replicated hits like Attack on Titan, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen, among many others. If the introductions of One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen prove successful, it’s possible that more well-known anime franchises could make their way to North America in the future.
