In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, Rove stands out as a unique and enigmatic character, resembling a Wud-wud wanderer whose mysterious speech could have been plucked from a Dark Souls game. Players encounter Rove relatively early in the main storyline, but as the game progresses, the locations of Rove in Monster Hunter Wilds become more scattered and harder to find.
Initially, players will encounter Rove hidden quite deeply within the Oilwell Basin, in a somewhat challenging position. Later on, he predominantly resides in the Iceshard Cliffs, but there are other locations where players can find him within Monster Hunter Wilds as well. One of these is during the ‘Aberrant Atrocity’ quest, which tasks players with meeting Rove at a secluded spot that may require them to report to him off the beaten path.
Rove First Location: Chapter 2-3 (Hopes of Home)
Players initially discover Rove in the den of a colossal spider-like creature called Nercylla, who has trapped our intrepid hero Wud-wud within its lair. This adventure unfolds during the main mission ‘Hopes of Home’, specifically in Chapter 2-3, as players delve into the subterranean caverns beneath Azuz, the Everforge, where they come face to face with this monstrous beast and uncover Rove’s initial hiding place.
While exploring the caves within the Oilwell Basin, listen closely as Rove’s voice echoes through the caverns. Draw nearer, and you’ll find yourself part of a scene that unfolds, revealing a quirky character ensnared in a web.
Upon defeating Nercylla, I’ll be able to release Rove from his web entanglement. Once liberated, he’ll reappear in the Iceshard Cliffs region once more.
How To Report to Rove (Aberrant Atrocity Side Quest)
To trade with Rove, you’ll initially need to finish the side mission titled ‘Aberrant Atrocity’, which he proposes if interacted with in a designated spot. You should have already rescued Rove from the Nercylla den and progressed to HR 16 to activate this side mission.
Make your way to Area 20: The Ancient Room on the Iceshard Cliffs map. To reach there, leap off the bridge adjacent to Base Camp towards the right side, traverse a bridge, then take a right turn and seek a doorway that leads to a temporary camp called a Pop-Up Camp location. Rove’s dwelling is located just beyond the corner from this Pop-Up Tent. Alternatively, you can simply auto-ride your Seikret to Rove’s position.
To locate Rove, check the map of Iceshard Cliffs. His quest icon is situated near Area 20, one level below the standard detailed view. Move your right analog stick in to place a marker on him, then hop onto your Seikret and let it guide you there. You’ll find Rove inside a small hovel. Alma will comment, “It seems you’ve been living here.”

1. On the Iceshard Cliffs map, you’ll notice Rove’s quest icon positioned beside Area 20, one level beneath the default detailed view. Push your right analog stick in to mark his location, then mount your Seikret and auto-run there. You can find him residing in a humble hovel, with Alma saying, “It looks like you’ve been holed up here.
The side quest ‘Aberrant Atrocity’ requires players to slay a Frenzied Yian Kut-Ku on behalf of Rove. In return, they will receive five Ancient Wyvern Coins and two units of Gracium, a high-value ore (Rarity 6) useful for crafting numerous weapon and armor sets.
Other Rove Locations In Monster Hunter Wilds

In Chapter 3-2 (Indomitable Spirit/Nothing Frozen, Nothing Gained), you’ll come across Rove once more, guiding the Hunter and their team towards a path through the treacherous Iceshard Cliffs. This turns out to be a hazardous journey for the crew.
Once you find out where Rove is hidden so you can start the “Aberrant Atrocity” side quest, he will transform into a Trader. It’s not necessary to finish the “Aberrant Atrocity” side quest to trade with Rove; all you need to do is speak to him again after discovering his location, and he’ll be ready to do business with you then.
You can also access Rove’s trader inventory by talking to Nata at any base camp.
In simpler terms, Rove will provide you with an assortment of items that change regularly (such as monster remnants, cooking supplies, and crafting resources), in exchange for your Chaliceweed and Gobletweed. These materials can be obtained by farming underwater locations within the Scarlet Forest.
