Unlock the Nostalgia: Nintendo Switch Online Surprises with Super Mario Kart Soundtrack!

Over the past several years, having a Nintendo Switch Online subscription has become essential for console owners. Not only does it allow users to play games online, but it also offers unique profile icons, classic games accessible through various applications, and even a streaming music service. Recently, Nintendo added another free perk: access to Nintendo Music. They’ve included the soundtrack for Super Mario Kart, giving fans the opportunity to listen to memorable tunes from the original Super Nintendo game. In all, there are 37 different music tracks available.

The original version of Mario Kart, titled Super Mario Kart, was the pioneer in the Mario Kart series and debuted back in 1992. Over time, this game may seem a bit outdated with only 8 playable characters to pick from and fewer race tracks compared to subsequent releases. Nevertheless, Super Mario Kart continues to exude a certain appeal, which is evident even in its soundtrack. The tune of Mario Circuit stands out as one of the most iconic melodies in the game, while it’s hard not to be drawn to the lively charm of Koopa Beach music too.

Over the past year, the Nintendo Music app has gradually been enriching its library with soundtracks covering different gaming systems produced by the company. So far, tracks from the Super Nintendo era have been relatively scarce, with only five games like “Super Mario Kart” being represented. However, the app receives updates quite frequently; last week, it included music from “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker”. Although there are currently few Super Nintendo titles, it’s likely that more will be added soon.

It’s intriguing that the new music additions from Nintendo have been released around the same time as some of their other announcements. For instance, the soundtracks for the Donkey Kong Country trilogy were made public recently, possibly to generate excitement for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, which came out on Nintendo Switch last week. Similarly, we’re about to get the soundtrack for Super Mario Kart shortly after Nintendo unveiled the upcoming game in the series along with the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Initially, when Nintendo Switch Online debuted, many fans expressed dissatisfaction over the need to subscribe for its services. Yet, over time, Nintendo has been steadily enhancing the value of this subscription, introducing more playable games, exclusive profile icons, and ad-free music for mobile devices. Although there are still areas where Nintendo Switch Online could (and should) be optimized, its frequent updates and free gifts keep it a worthwhile investment.
