This year, Trooping the Colour, a traditional royal celebration, is back for more festivities to mark the monarch’s birthday. The public are invited to join in the festivities over the weekend.
2023 signifies that King Charles III has participated in his third Trooping the Colour ceremony as monarch, nearly three years into his reign.
The event, airing simultaneously on BBC One and Two, is expected to be a grand spectacle featuring an abundance of music, splendor, and military discipline. It will reach its climax with the yearly RAF airshow and the Royal Family appearing on their balcony.

How to watch Trooping the Colour 2025
Clare Balding takes charge yet again as she presents the live broadcast straight from central London. It all starts this coming Saturday, the 14th of June, at 10:30 in the morning, available on BBC One and iPlayer.
The parade is expected to go on for approximately two hours, wrapping up at 1:10 PM as per BBC’s broadcast. Later in the day, a recap of the events will air on BBC Two at 7 PM.
What is the schedule for Trooping the Colour 2025 and what time does it begin?
As in previous years, the Royal Family will commence celebrations with a parade starting from Buckingham Palace, making their way to the Horse Guards.
Below is an estimated order of events for the day:
- 10:30am – The Horse Guard Parade
- 12:25pm – Royal Family to return to Buckingham Palace
- 12:55pm – Royal Family to assemble on the balcony of Buckingham Palace
- 1:00pm – Royal flypast by the RAF
Does Trooping the Colour take place on the King’s actual birthday?
Contrary to popular belief, Trooping the Colour does not take place on King Charles III’s birthday.
Instead of his real birthday falling on 14th November, Trooping the Colour serves as an official commemoration for a monarch, a custom that has been observed since the 18th century.
