2025’s much-awaited film, titled “28 Years Later,” has finally hit the screens in the UK. Notably, its creators, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, are revisiting the universe they established way back in 2002.
28 Days Later, featuring Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris, was both critically and popularly successful upon release. In comparison, the sequel, 28 Weeks Later from 2007, received less praise but remains a respected movie.
As we move towards “28 Years Later”, it’s evident that both Boyle and Garland are leaning more towards the initial movie instead of its follow-up. In fact, Boyle stated: “We chose to construct this trilogy with inspiration drawn from the first film.
Apart from his character, the Cillian Murphy figure is significant in relation to the nature of the virus itself – understanding its essence, how it behaves, and how it responds to various situations.
Of course, enthusiasts might be eager to revisit both movies before the next one arrives. So, where can they locate these films right now, and are there streaming options available for them?
Read on for everything you need to know about how to watch 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
How to watch 28 Days Later

28 Days Later can be watched without charge on the BBC iPlayer, or alternatively, if you’re a subscriber, it’s available on Sky Cinema and NOW streaming platforms.
The film is also available to rent or buy on Amazon Video, Sky Store, Apple TV and Rakuten TV.
It was first released in 2002 and it was written by Alex Garland directed by Danny Boyle.
In a rephrased manner, the synopsis could read: “In this chilling sci-fi horror film by Danny Boyle, directed by Alex Garland, animal rights activists unleash a group of diseased chimpanzees, leading to devastating consequences.
28 days after slipping into a coma in an abandoned London hospital, bike messenger Jim (Cillian Murphy), bewildered and puzzled, ventures out onto the empty city streets.
After a chilling experience at an apparently empty church, Jim teams up with other survivor groups. It isn’t long before he uncovers the explanation for the vacant townscape and the ominous beings hiding in darkness.
It becomes clear later on that the chimpanzees were unknowingly carrying a lethal virus. This virus caused its hosts to experience an intense, violent fury, leading to a deadly outbreak. As a result, most of the population was tragically lost in the ensuing violent spree in the days following the initial infection.
Is there any sign that humanity might be saved – or has the destructive ‘virus of rage’ spread beyond our borders and affected every corner of the earth?

In simpler terms, the official summary for 28 Weeks Later states that the residents of the British Isles could no longer withstand the attack of the illness known as the rage virus, which had claimed the lives of everyone in the region.
Six months have passed, and a brave band of Americans decide to venture onto the islands, believing the threat had subsided. However, they quickly realize that the menace is still lurking, biding its time to strike again.
