In the latest issue #6 of “Absolute Wonder Woman,” this comic series yet again delivers an impressive performance, consistently pushing the boundaries of what makes Wonder Woman great. The story continues to surprise readers with revelations about her past, such as the identity of her mother being Circe and the location where she was raised. Despite these changes in her mission, one constant remains – Wonder Woman’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding humanity.
Many aspects of the character have been updated, including Absolute Wonder Woman’s imposing new sword and an assortment of new weapons she now carries. Among these new additions is one of Wonder Woman’s most recognized tools – her lasso. Intriguingly, Absolute Wonder Woman now possesses three distinct lassos: the traditional golden Lasso of Truth, a new blue version, and a third, named the Nemesis Lasso in red.
In the second issue of the book, readers encountered a unique lasso that appears to inflict pain according to an individual’s transgressions. This is unlike any other lassos seen before, as well as the previous red lasso featured in Wonder Woman comics. The first red lasso we came across belonged to Cassie Sandsmark, whose powers were electric due to her father being Zeus. However, this new red lasso differs significantly. In issue #6 of Absolute Wonder Woman, the origin of this novel weapon is revealed, and it incorporates Greek mythology in a fascinating manner.
The Titan and the Serpent
In issue #6 of the incredible Wonder Woman series, our heroine ventures into the Underworld for a meeting with Hades. The ruler of the underworld makes her surrender her weapons, and when she complies, he inquires about the mysterious Nemesis Lasso. Wonder Woman shares the tale of her encounter with Prometheus on Mount Prometheus. The myth of Prometheus is one of the most intriguing stories from Greek mythology. Feeling compassion for mankind, living in a world that endured half-day cold darkness, he secretly stole fire from the gods to give to humanity. Needless to say, the gods were not pleased with this act, and Prometheus was punished by being chained to a mountain, where an eagle would eat his liver each day, only for it to regrow overnight. Despite his suffering, Prometheus remains devoted to mankind, making him more than willing to assist Wonder Woman.
Blinding herself to confront the beast, she ultimately emerges victorious. Along with Circe, she retrieved the creature’s remains, incorporating various parts into the Nemesis Lasso.
The Nemesis Lasso Is a Weapon Made to Destroy Gods
Over the past few years, Wonder Woman has employed various types of weapons, with swords being a common choice, yet her iconic weapon remains the Lasso of Truth. Throughout her eight-decade journey, readers have encountered diverse lassos – such as the black Lasso of Lies in the Tom King/Daniel Sampere run and the red lasso of Cassie Sandsmark – so it’s logical for this new version of Wonder Woman to wield fresh lassos. This revamped Wonder Woman would naturally carry different weapons, and the Nemesis Lasso offers an intriguing twist on the traditional lasso concept, not only due to its unique origin but also its method of creation.
In the mythos, Wonder Woman was nurtured by Circe, renowned in folklore for her magical prowess. Circe imparted her sorcery skills to Wonder Woman too, and together they crafted the Amazon’s weapons. Notably, ancient witchcraft involves utilizing every part of a creature sacrificed, as seen in the formation of the Nemesis Lasso. This formidable artifact was constructed using the tissue and blood of a Titan, the venom from the last basilisk (and potentially other components), to create a weapon designed specifically to vanquish deities. The crafting of such an item underscores the intellectual brilliance that has garnered Absolute Wonder Woman widespread acclaim.
