The tale titled “Alixion” was penned by Robin Mukherjee, a writer who later contributed to shows like The Bill, Casualty, and EastEnders, and its production was first approved in 1989.

Regrettably, the series was cancelled mid-year, leaving Mukherjee’s tale unfinished for many years. However, with Doctor Who – The Lost Stories, his story will soon be brought to light and shared with audiences.

The Lost Tales of Doctor Who: Alixion is a complete audio play from Big Finish, inspired by the original Alixion story. It brings back Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred reprising her beloved role as Ace.

At a high-end wellness resort for some relaxation, the Doctor and Ace unexpectedly fall under the control of an evil force that yearns to dominate both time and the cosmos.

Using memories and remorse, the queen of the hive, concealed within the refined chambers of the spa, compels them to face their most profound anxieties. As she drains the Doctor’s vital energy, she expands her influence throughout the cosmos.

Besides McCoy and Aldred, the cast also features Shri Patel from “This England” and Beverly Longhurst from “I May Destroy You.

Reflecting on its origins, Mukherjee stated: “I vividly remember those crowded rooms inside a dull office building on Shepherds Bush Green that transformed into a hotbed of creativity. John [Nathan-Turner], Andrew [Cartmel], Ben [Aaronovitch], Ian [Briggs], Graeme [Curry], Rona [Munro] and others were there, filling the air with ideas. I was in awe of their creativity. We journeyed through space and time to weave extraordinary stories for what I believe is one of the show’s best-ever Doctor/companion duos.

1. “Cancelling the upcoming series terminated my assignment, but ideas for that tale have lingered in the edges of my thoughts.”

2. “The decision to scrap the next series concluded my contract, yet fragments of the narrative linger at the periphery of my mind.”

3. “With the cancellation of the next series, I no longer have a job, but the concept has persistently been on the fringes of my mental landscape.”

4. “The scrapped series ended my employment, yet the plotline has continued to linger in the corners of my mind.”

5. “The series cancellation meant the end of my work, but the narrative idea still lingers in the periphery of my imagination.”

He continued by stating: “What struck me the most while writing this was discovering just how many stories, derived from our chats, were ready and waiting to be shared. It seems like a journey that started in the delicate beginnings of my earlier career has finally reached its completion.

Pre-orders are now open for “Doctor Who – The Lost Stories: Alixion” on the Big Finish site, available only there.
