In the enigmatic world of Atomfall, one of the most captivating puzzles revolves around the voice on the phone. As you traverse the Windscale quarantine area, you’ll encounter numerous British telephone booths, some of which will mysteriously ring. The person speaking on the other end has a gruff, authoritative tone. This individual may provide you with an opportunity to leave the quarantine zone, but uncovering their identity remains one of Atomfall’s longest-standing mysteries.
[Warning: Spoilers for Atomfall.]
In the opening stages of the game, Atomfall, you’ll stumble upon a voice in a phone booth situated below the hill where the game commences. As you advance through the game, phones will intermittently ring, inviting you to respond. If you do, the voice typically warns you about individuals attempting to exit the quarantine zone, urging caution. The primary storyline of Atomfall branches into a few key questlines, each culminating in distinct conclusions, and this voice consistently advises against trusting anyone but them.
The Voice’s Identity Is Never Revealed
Atomfall’s Lingering Mystery
Regardless of heeding their guidance within the game “Atomfall”, the identity of the person on the phone will remain a mystery throughout. Although the voice consistently urges Oberon’s destruction, reaching the heart of the Winscale plant and executing this task won’t uncover any explanations for you.
If you manage to demolish Oberon, a telephone in the Windscale facility will ring as you flee, and responding to it will have a mysterious voice instructing you to return to where your journey began – the very bunker where you first awoke at the start of the game. Upon reaching there, you’ll pick up another phone, gas will fill the room causing your character to lose consciousness, and the credits will roll with no explanation as to what happens next.
Who The Voice On The Phone Is Could Be Revealed In Atomfall’s DLC
It appears there’s another opportunity for a more enlightening finale to the peculiar “Atomfall” saga, with the upcoming “Wicked Isle” story expansion. Unfortunately, details about this anticipated DLC are scant, limited only to its title and its inclusion in the “Atomfall” Deluxe Edition. Given the various possible endings of “Atomfall”, it’s unlikely that “Wicked Isle” will unfold post-main story, so any additional information might spoil the intriguing resolution.
In my critique of the game titled “Atomfall“, I hinted at feeling let down due to some puzzles left unexplained, and this is the major one. To me, it seems as though a portion of the commentary is incomplete, somewhat resembling the shocking revelation found in BioShock. The intrigue lies in players obeying an unseen voice that fails to clarify questions, but in “Atomfall“, this mysterious element feels disjointed because the game is heavily character-focused. Considering the ending where you accompany the voice back to the bunker, I don’t anticipate its origin ever being disclosed.
