As a seasoned movie critic who spent my formative years immersed in the vibrant musical tapestry of Los Angeles, I must say that the discovery of these long-lost Michael Jackson tapes is nothing short of electrifying. Having attended countless concerts and lived through the King of Pop’s meteoric rise to fame, I can attest to the fact that these unreleased tracks could potentially redefine the narrative of one of the most iconic figures in music history.
It’s said that a collection of previously unheard Michael Jackson recordings has apparently been found in an empty storage facility in the San Fernando Valley.
56-year-old Gregg Musgrove, a former California Highway Patrol officer, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he stumbled upon the tapes when a contact informed him about a storage unit he purchased in Van Nuys. This storage unit, as it turned out, was previously owned by music producer and singer Bryan Loren (who, according to Musgrove, is currently untraceable).
In the unit, Musgrove discovered 12 unreleased tracks that Jackson was working on between 1989 and 1991, prior to the release of Dangerous.
Musgrove shared with the media that he’s checked out every dedicated fan site. Some tunes are whispered to be in existence, while others have been partially exposed. However, a few of these songs haven’t surfaced at all on the global scene yet.
Listening to this material, I got chills since no one had heard anything like it before, as Musgrove noted. Hearing Michael Jackson speak casually and exchange jokes made the experience incredibly fascinating.
On those yet-unrevealed recordings, there’s a track called “Truth on Youth,” which appears to be a rap collaboration between Michael Jackson and LL Cool J.
The title of another song appears to be a reference to the gossip swirling around the “King of Pop” in the news media, and it’s called “Don’t Fall for It.
The article mentioned that Jackson’s estate chose not to buy the tapes for some unspecified cause, yet they did send a letter stating they do not assert ownership over them.
The estate emphasized in their correspondence that whoever acquires the tapes from Musgrove won’t have ownership rights over the recordings or compositions. This implies that these materials cannot be made public.
Nevertheless, these recordings are thought to be highly valuable, and Musgrove mentioned his intention to bring them to auction houses soon. It’s plausible that a collector of Michael Jackson memorabilia will quickly secure it in an upcoming sale.
