Until Dawn Remake Dev ‘Effectively’ Closed, Says New Report

Based on a report from Insider Gaming, it appears that Ballistic Moon, the studio responsible for collaborating with Sony on the PS5 and PC remake of Until Dawn, has significantly reduced its operations. According to their sources familiar with the situation, the studio has experienced a series of layoffs in December, primarily affecting employees working on post-launch support for the game. Now, it’s reported that only the founders remain, with a small number of staff members potentially still present, at most.

Although Ballistic Moon collaborated on the remake of Until Dawn with Sony, they remain an autonomous development studio. It’s been reported that their leadership has been seeking funding and new projects, yet have not found any success in securing either. At Ballistic Moon, according to Insider Gaming, it’s often a satisfactory workplace; however, periods of uncompensated overtime have been reported, particularly in the weeks preceding the company’s internal notice about layoffs.

Launched in October 2024, the PS5 version of Until Dawn, a PC remake, sparked some debate among fans due to their doubts about its necessity. Given that the PS4 edition is free and certain changes resulting in downgrades in the new release, it didn’t gain the expected momentum. However, we still found it worth recommending, given its improved graphics and slight gameplay adjustments.
