If not for the release of Concord in 2024, the remake of Until Dawn from last year would have been one of the major disappointments among first-party releases of that year, given its subdued reception and dismal sales on both PS5 and PC. Unfortunately, it seems that the developer of this horror adventure game, British studio Ballistic Moon, is not faring any better.
According to recent news from Insider Gaming, Ballistic Moon appears to have significantly reduced its workforce, leading many to consider it closed. An initial round of layoffs affected around 40 employees in September, followed by another 20 in December. Now, it’s suggested that the studio may only have a few staff members left, including its founders and perhaps a small number of others at most.
Reports suggest that Ballistic Moon and Sony may have initially talked about a sequel or improvements for the remake of Until Dawn getting approved, although this did not materialize. It’s also said that the studio was proposing ideas to other publishers, but couldn’t find the necessary financial backing.
Indeed, technically, Ballistic Moon is still considered active according to official records. However, as of now, there’s been no communication from Ballistic Moon regarding its current status. If they manage to secure funding, it’s speculated that they might start rehiring staff again.
It’s been reported that a follow-up to the game “Until Dawn” is apparently being created at PlayStation studio Firesprite right now. Additionally, a movie adaptation of “Until Dawn” is set to premiere on April 25th.
