In the eighth and final season of My Hero Academia, produced by Studio BONES, Class 1-A will bid farewell come autumn. Although the series is concluding, fans can still expect a return to some iconic characters and battles that catapulted Kohei Horikoshi’s anime into prominence.
During season six, Izuku Midoriya chose to wear an ominous costume, earning him the nickname “Dark Deku” from fans as he grappled with a challenging period in his life. To commemorate this phase, a new figure and life-sized statue have been unveiled.
The latest figure is a result of the recent exhibit dedicated to “My Hero Academia,” celebrating its long-running series. Known as the shonen franchise, they detail that the 3D model of Dark Deku was crafted by Sculptor WATANABE×REN, using a preliminary sketch of “Black Deku” drawn by Horikoshi-sensei for the “Horikoshi Kohei My Hero Academia Original Art Exhibition.” Initially designed in life-size, this 3D model of “Black Deku” has been scaled down to 1/7 size while maintaining its impressive size and quality. Under Horikoshi-sensei’s guidance, the sculptor accurately recreated the realistic statue of Dark Deku, standing tall in a battle pose with direct eye contact. You can catch a sneak peek below.

The Life-Sized Dark Deku
Preparing for its grand opening in Japan, an exciting exhibit focusing on the masterful creations of renowned manga artist Kohei Horikoshi is set to debut at the Creative Museum Tokyo. Entitled the “Kohei Horikoshi My Hero Academia Original Art Exhibition”, it will run from June 21st until August 31st. The show has already unveiled a life-sized depiction of Deku’s darker persona, although regrettably, the full-scale statue is not expected to travel to North America. However, a smaller figurine based on the same design will be accessible globally.
A Dark Refresher Course
In the aftermath of Hero Society disintegrating, Shigaraki and the Villain League swiftly liberated All For One and numerous imprisoned evildoers. As a direct consequence, Deku donned a darker role and, without pausing for rest or food, embarked on a frantic mission to rescue as many people as possible from the villains’ attack. The urgency of his task was clearly reflected in his costume.
Fortunately for Midoriya, his friends from UA Academy managed to save him from a precarious situation, promising to help shoulder the load and aid him against All For One and Shigaraki. This set the stage for the climactic battle now unfolding in the anime, where both heroes and villains are succumbing to the fierce combat, with the fate of Hero Society hanging by a thread. The anime adaptation of “My Hero Academia” will resume this October, potentially depicting some monumental events if it stays true to the manga’s course.
