Val Kilmer’s Tragic Last Hours: Set for Public Appearance Before Unexpected Death

Val Kilmer was planning a night out before fate took hold.

On the day he passed away, April 1, at the age of 65, the star famed for playing Batman was anticipated to grace the opening night of the Beverly Hills Film Festival, as stated by festival organizers.

Nino Simone, the founder and president, expressed surprise when they learned this information, as shared in a statement obtained by TopMob News on April 2. They had recently confirmed that Val would be attending the west coast premiere of American Badass: A Michael Madsen Retrospective, which was planned for last weekend.

Simone mentioned that the actor appeared delighted to attend in honor of his friend Michael Madsen, and further explained that she found out about Val Kilmer’s passing while the festival’s public relations team was preparing for his appearance on the red carpet.

He went on to say that the news and tale of his passing were shared simultaneously, an astonishing and deeply saddening fact. Our sympathies are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

TopMob News has reached out to a rep for Kilmer for comment but has not heard back.

Just hours before the festival commenced, Mercedes Kilmer, the actor’s daughter, verified his passing to the New York Times. She disclosed that he had succumbed to pneumonia. Furthermore, she revealed that he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but managed to overcome the disease.

Earlier in April 2020, Kilmer shared insights about his battle with cancer, mentioning that although he was deemed ‘healed’ from the illness, his voice developed a gravelly tone due to the effects of his treatment.

He shared with Good Morning America that while his voice might not reflect it, he was feeling fantastic. He added that he had a tracheotomy to aid his breathing since his throat’s glands became swollen.

But through his health battle, he retained a sense of humor about the situation.

In a light-hearted Instagram post before his TV appearance, he humorously mentioned that his voice sounded like a frog, but it wasn’t. Instead, it was a buffalo. Despite having overcome cancer, he is gradually recovering his speech, and he has made it clear that the hardships haven’t silenced him as an artist.
