Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Bites an ESRB Rating

As a long-time fan since the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines dropped back in 2004, I’ve been eagerly anticipating its return. In essence, the highly impactful vampire RPG was reborn in 2019, but it seems development has encountered numerous challenges over the years. However, the recent ESRB rating of “M” indicates that the team is making solid strides forward.

In this action-packed role-playing game, players assist two vampires in recovering their lost memories and powers to quell an uprising. During gameplay, combat with bloodthirsty enemies will be intense, leading to decapitated bodies, corpses impaled on stakes, and other gory scenes. The game also includes graphic suggestive content and strong language, including the word “fk”.

Reflecting on the initial release, developed by Troika Games, it was far from playable by today’s standards, earning its cult status post-launch due to dedicated fans patching the game. As such, we approach this experience with cautious optimism, given the apparent jinx that seems to haunt games associated with The World of Darkness tabletop setting. However, the rich atmosphere and allure of this universe remain a beacon of hope for us.

In simple terms, “Bloodlines 2” is being created by The Chinese Room, known for hits like “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture” and “Still Wakes the Deep”. Fingers crossed they manage a successful launch and maintain their streak of critically praised games.
