Vanessa Hudgens Shares Glimpse Into Life After Welcoming First Baby

In reminiscing about the magical world of High School Musical, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia that only time can dim, but never truly extinguish. As a Wildcat alumna, I’ve been fortunate enough to don some of Sharpay’s fabulous wardrobe pieces (yes, even the pink sequined jacket), and I must admit, I did envision myself strutting down the red carpet in them at one point. However, when Disney tried to reclaim their property, I stood my ground with a firm “No, this is mine.” So, they don’t have any of Sharpay’s clothes from the first movie – I do!

What time is it? Time to check in with Vanessa Hudgens.

Four months following the former “High School Musical” star giving birth to a child with her spouse, Cole Tucker, the actress recently shared an update about her postpartum journey via a series of fresh images on Instagram on November 4th.

Initially, Vanessa extended her tongue and formed the peace symbol in the first snapshot as she struck a pose before her mirror, clad in an over-sized A Tribe Called Quest jersey. Subsequently, she took another selfie, this time playfully puckering her lips while adorning a cozy brown beanie hat.

After that, the actress from “The Princess Switch” posted a selfie without makeup, setting a glass of red wine on the counter alongside a lit candle. To finish off the series of photos, she unveiled an unexpected change, showing her hair in pigtails and flashing a playful smile.

Alongside the photo dump, the 35-year-old wrote, “Miss rarely takes pics any more.”

Although Vanessa hasn’t revealed her baby’s identity or gender in public, she made a statement not long after childbirth regarding photos that were leaked showing her with her newborn.

She expressed her disappointment in a July Instagram Story post because our family’s privacy was violated and taken advantage of during such a significant moment, all due to the excessive curiosity and hunger for sensational news by the long-range camera operators.

She added, “Despite all of that, mom dad and baby are happy and healthy.”

Besides Vanessa, another High School Musical cast member, Ashley Tisdale, has also grown her family this year. She gave birth to her second child with her husband Christopher French in September.

Ashley, who is a mother to her 3-year-old daughter Jupiter, wrote on Instagram as Emerson Clover French, ‘We’re all absolutely smitten by you.’

To demonstrate their unity, Monique Coleman (fellow Wildcat) extended warm greetings to both Ashley and Vanessa.

Monique shared with TopMob News in October that she hasn’t had the chance to meet their children yet, but she is thrilled to see them take on the role as mothers. Furthermore, she expressed her excitement for everyone involved, looking forward to witnessing our lives unfold throughout the years.

Originally, “High School Musical” was simply a temporary title; Disney and the movie creators were still undecided about the final name.

2. Hunter Parrish and Sterling Knight both tried out for the part of Troy Bolton but eventually lost it to Zac Efron. However, they later co-starred with him in the movie “17 Again,” playing his high school rival/daughter’s unsuccessful boyfriend and his son respectively.

3. While auditioning initially for Ryan Evans, Corbin Bleu admitted to Buzzfeed that he was unaware of the role of Chad Danforth at the time. However, upon securing the part, it was Corbin who conceived all the catchphrases on Chad’s iconic graphic t-shirts. He shared that the collection is stored in a box in his garage.

4. Prior to securing the parts of Sharpay and Taylor, Ashley Tisdale and Monique Coleman had both attempted to land the role of Gabriella. Monique reflected on her audition by saying, “I was dreadful, I honestly didn’t feel confident enough to sing and dance.

5. Meanwhile, Lucas Grabeel initially auditioned for the role of Troy, but he instantly realized he wouldn’t be selected: “I auditioned right after Drew Seeley, who ultimately sang as Troy in the film,” he shared with Buzzfeed. “I certainly heard him because it was a trailer, so the walls were thin, and I thought, oh no! I’m definitely not going to get this role because that guy is fantastic.

6. Just a heads up: It might surprise you to learn that Drew was actually the one singing as Troy in the initial HSM film. However, during the High School Musical tour, scheduling issues led Drew to step in for Zac Efron. But when it came to the subsequent movies, it was all Zac on Troy’s tracks.

In a conversation with the Orlando Sentinel, Zac shared that it was a significant issue for him. He had to stand firm and argue to ensure his voice was included in these projects. Initially, his voice wasn’t present on the tracks from the first movie. He wasn’t provided with a clear explanation. It just so happened that way, which unfortunately left him in an uncomfortable situation.

7. As stated in Rolling Stone’s renowned feature article about Zac (known as “The New American Heartthrob”), approximately one-third of teenage girls in the United States had a poster of him on their bedroom walls, although they attributed this statistic to an unspecified website.

8. Just as genuine on the set as it seemed in the scenes, Ashley and Lucas initially had a strained relationship…to put it mildly. “We weren’t close,” Ashley confessed in a video they made together for her YouTube channel, “we weren’t friends…we disliked each other.” Lucas echoed this sentiment, saying that their initial meeting on the film set didn’t exactly go smoothly but eventually, they grew to be good friends. Isn’t it wonderful!

9. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Lucas shared that he advocated for Ryan’s sexuality to be portrayed early in the series. “Upon reading the script,” Lucas said to Kenny Ortega, “I immediately asked, ‘So, Kenny, is Ryan gay? I know it’s Disney Channel and all, but can we explore this aspect of his character?’ To which he replied, ‘Consider this: You can play a character who’s young, has an affinity for theater, and is an artist. Let’s approach it from there.’ He then discussed his personal experiences, explaining, ‘I see a lot of myself in Ryan. I knew I was gay in high school, but I didn’t tell anyone.’ It was about making the character authentic.

10. The distinctive jazz squares attributed to Ryan were actually devised by Lucas, also including the vocal warm-ups of Ryan and Sharpay. As Lucas humorously noted, these dance moves were a playful tribute to two choreographers from his childhood who frequently incorporated jazz squares into their routines. They never explicitly stated that everyone adores jazz squares, but the style seemed fitting for Ryan, which is why Lucas intended to make it an integral part of every number.

On the movie or TV show set, Kenny maintained a jar for yawns, where anyone who yawned had to put some money in. “For about five years straight, during Christmas, he’d donate the collected funds to a charity, using our names,” Monique pointed out, explaining that the money was given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah each year.

12. Following the completion of the first film, Monique found an eviction notice upon returning home, and she was facing financial difficulties in paying her bills, much like Lucas, who struggled to secure new work opportunities after the High School Musical series.

13. Following the record-breaking debut of the first movie, Disney allowed fans to have input on various aspects of the eagerly awaited sequel, such as suggestions for Chad’s t-shirt slogans, the kind of sandwiches Troy and Gabriella might eat on their date, and a brief cameo by Miley Cyrus, former star of Hannah Montana.

14. Similar to her character Ms. Darbus from East High, Alyson Reed in real life also took on a mentoring role for the students off-screen. In fact, she ended up teaching Monique acting, stating that she felt most at ease with her. “She was the one who helped me regain my confidence,” Monique shared with Buzzfeed. “I truly believe she played a significant role in helping me grow as an actress.

Initially, the idea for the third installment of the franchise was a Halloween-themed movie titled “Haunted High School Musical,” but this plan was eventually abandoned, as Zac Efron stated to MTV, “Yes, I don’t think the haunted aspect lasted long.” The final film, which was the only High School Musical movie to be shown in theaters, was then named “High School Musical: Senior Year.

16. I, a devoted fan, almost had the opportunity to star in HSM 3 as Tiara Gold, challenging Sharpay’s new rival. However, the beloved Disney figurehead, Selena Gomez, chose to decline the role, stating “I simply didn’t feel ready.” She expressed her intentions to pursue roles that push her boundaries as an actress post-Disney, aiming for a lasting serious career in acting. Interestingly, Ali Lohan was also rumored to have auditioned for the part eventually won by Jemma McKenzie-Brown.

17. Chad’s character’s father, David Reivers, makes his debut in the third part of the series. Interestingly, Corbin Bernsen’s real-life dad, David Reivers, portrays Mr. Danforth in this installment. They have previously acted as a father and son duo in the movies Jump In! and Free Style.

18. Ashley openly shared with Buzzfeed that she kept most of Sharpay’s costumes from the initial film, explaining, “At one point, did I imagine wearing them on the red carpet? Perhaps, initially.” Later, when Disney attempted to reclaim these items, Ashley mimicked Sharpay’s stubbornness by declaring her preference for poking toothpicks into her eyes over giving up the clothes. “I responded, ‘No, these belong to me,’ so they have no garments from the first movie – I do.

19. When the initial film was released, spectators speculated about which cast members could be in a relationship, with many assuming Zac Efron and I were a couple. Ashley later said, “People thought that Zac Efron and I were dating because we were on numerous magazine covers together, promoting the first movie. It’s amusing to us since he was obviously involved with someone else, and he’s my close friend.

20. Indeed, Zanessa was quite a sensation among HSM fans. The news of their real-life romance sent waves through the community. They dated for four years, making them one of the most cherished young Hollywood couples. However, they parted ways in 2010. Vanessa shared on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast that their relationship started naturally and she was extremely thankful for it at the time.

21. During the filming of the movies, they had a spat, which occurred during HSM 3. As she recalled, “There was this one instance where we actually got into an argument, and it happened while we were rehearsing,” she reminisced. “I can still picture Kenny Ortega rounding the corner with a worried expression, thinking, ‘Oh dear, is our movie going to disintegrate now?’

2016 saw Disney Channel announcing auditions for what they called “High School Musical 4”, seeking fresh talent to carry on the legacy of East High Wildcats within the franchise. Jeffrey Hornaday, known for his work directing and choreographing popular Disney Channel productions like “Teen Beach Movie” and “Teen Beach 2”, was set to oversee this new project. Regrettably, the production never materialized as planned.

23. In 2006, according to Billboard, the High School Musical soundtrack was the best-selling album of the year, with a staggering 3.7 million copies sold. This made it the first television movie soundtrack ever to reach No. 1 on the sales chart.

24. To this day, “High School Musical 2” remains one of the most highly-watched Disney Channel Original Movies ever, pulling in an astonishing 17.2 million viewers. As Gary Marsh, then president of Disney Channel, put it back then, “This was our Super Bowl.” He went on to say that they had surpassed the point where “High School Musical” was just a movie; it had become a full-blown phenomenon.

25. On a meager budget of only $11 million, the movie “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” raked in an impressive $250 million globally in 2008. In its initial week, it claimed the top spot at the box office.
