Vera confirms release date for 14th and final season

As a devoted fan of Vera for over a decade now, I can’t help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions as I prepare to bid farewell to my beloved DCI Vera Stanhope. From the Northumbrian landscapes that have become as familiar as my own backyard, to the enigmatic and brilliantly portrayed character of Vera herself, played masterfully by Brenda Blethyn, this series has been a constant source of comfort and intrigue in my life.

This marks a significant change: Vera’s story concludes with a spectacular farewell episode airing on ITV.

The final installments of the cozy crime series are set to premiere in two episodes later this year. It has been confirmed by ITV that these episodes will start airing, with the first episode scheduled for January 1st (Wednesday) at 8pm on ITV1.

The second and last episode is set to follow, airing on Thursday, January 2nd, at 8 PM on ITV1.

This year, we got a peek at what each episode will bring, and it looks like there are many exciting things coming up for Vera.

In the opening scene, Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope is summoned to the riverside along the Tyne after fishermen find the lifeless body of a youth there.

Unraveling a complex tapestry of a shattered bond, hidden affections, lingering resentment, remorse, and deceit seems to be coming to light – was the justice meted out to our ex-prisoner justifiably chilly, or does his demise conceal a far more profound truth?

“The final episode brings Vera back to a familiar place when a body is found at the foot of legendary local stones The Dark Wives – with memories of childhood in the background, Vera must work hard to uncover the mystery of why a bright young student would be violently attacked and left so far from home.”

In this moving installment, the story intertwines old and new events, creating a powerful and emotionally charged send-off.

In the upcoming series finale of Vera, David Leon, Jon Morrison, and Riley Jones will once again step into their respective roles as DI Joe Ashworth, DC Kenny Lockhart, and DC Mark Edwards. They’ll be teaming up with Brenda Blethyn for her final appearance in the show.

In April, I learned that the series featuring Vera Stanhope as DCI was wrapping up, and in a poignant farewell, Brenda Blethyn put away her memorable trench coat and hat for the last time.

In a previous statement, Blethyn expressed that working on Vera brought him immense pleasure since the very start, and now he regretsfully says goodbye.

However, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of pride for what we have accomplished over the past 14 years. I will always be thankful to Ann Cleeves, the brilliant creator of Vera, and Elaine Collins, who gave me the opportunity to play this role.

Viewers can hold onto Vera for a while longer, as a farewell tribute titled “Vera, Farewell My Friend” is set to air on ITV1 on Friday, 3rd January at 9pm.

By gaining unique backstage insights into the final season, viewers can unveil the timeless charm of the show and its significant influence on the actors, production team, and audience members.

As reported by ITV, the upcoming documentary provides fans with an opportunity to bid a fond farewell to Vera, one of TV’s cherished detective characters.

Vera’s fourteenth season premieres on Wednesday, January 1st at 8 PM on ITV1. You can catch up on previous episodes by streaming them on ITVX.
