Vera’s Brenda Blethyn was emotional when series wrapped as she reveals final scene

As I sit down to watch the final season of Vera, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey that Brenda Blethyn and her character have taken us on over the past 14 seasons. The show has been a staple in my weekly viewing routine, and I can’t help but feel a tinge of sadness as we approach the end.

Filming the final scenes was an emotional experience for everyone involved, according to Blethyn herself. And who wouldn’t be? After all, Vera has become more than just a character on our screens; she’s a beloved friend who has shared her triumphs and tribulations with us week after week.

I can’t help but marvel at the depth that Brenda Blethyn has brought to the character of Vera Stanhope. From her complex relationships to her unwavering dedication to justice, she has captivated audiences worldwide. And as we delve deeper into Vera’s personal journey in these final episodes, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement.

I remember the first time I stumbled upon Vera on television. I was flipping through channels with a friend, looking for something to watch, when suddenly there she was – Vera Stanhope. “Oh, crikey!” I thought, and immediately changed the channel, embarrassed at my own mistake. Little did I know that this character would soon become one of my favorites.

With so many iconic episodes to rewatch, it’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of this incredible journey. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. And while Vera may no longer be gracing our screens every week, she will continue to crack crime in Ann Cleeves’ books – a fact that brings me great comfort.

In closing, I’d like to leave you with this little joke: Why did Vera cross the road? To get to the other crime scene, of course! May your New Year be as exciting and unpredictable as a day in the life of Vera Stanhope.

Tonight, I’m eagerly anticipating the start of the initial installment of the final two episodes of “Vera.” This episode promises to keep me engrossed in yet another intricate murder mystery, while offering a glimpse into the personal odyssey of the esteemed detective character who gives the series its name.

Following a run of 14 seasons, viewers of the beloved series are bound to feel a sense of loss when saying goodbye to the cherished character and production, yet it was equally poignant behind the camera as they filmed those concluding episodes, as per series lead Brenda Blethyn.

Speaking further on the subject, Blethyn mentioned that it was fittingly symbolic for the last day of shooting to occur in the police incident room, a location where a significant portion of the drama had unfolded.

It seems our producer, Will Nicholson, came up with that idea. (Coincidentally, the final scene of the episode doesn’t occur there.) The set was incredibly quiet during filming. When I heard “That’s a wrap,” I felt quite emotional. Just as Vera would have been.

She added: “There were many people working off-camera, and at the end, I thanked everyone. I emphasized that we’re all equally important. Even though I play the main character, it’s just one piece in a large puzzle. Every piece is essential to complete the picture.

Each individual plays a role in its creation, and it’s the collective effort that has made Vera a triumph. Vera will undoubtedly persist in solving crimes within Ann Cleeves’ novels, and you can enjoy 56 episodes of her investigations on television re-runs.

Blethyn stated: “One day, I was with a companion, and we were browsing through the TV channels to find something engaging. We stumbled upon a drama that I had never seen before, and I exclaimed, ‘This seems interesting. Let’s give it a watch.’ My friend concurred.

Initially, we were engrossed in the program when, all of a sudden, the door burst open and Vera entered. Surprised, I exclaimed mentally, “Oh, my word!” and swiftly changed the channel. I felt rather awkward because it appeared as if I had been searching for something to watch with me starring in it! Honestly, I’m not sure which episode it was.

Given the numerous memorable episodes, it’s no surprise that fans will have an extensive collection to revisit. However, when it comes to the concluding installments, we’re poised for a deeply moving experience alongside Vera.

In the very final outing, The Dark Wives, we’re set to get some insight into Vera’s childhood.

Previously, executive producer Will Nicholson mentioned that the character Vera’s connection with her father Hector was intricate and significantly impacted her development. Tragically, her mother passed away, causing Vera to mature at an accelerated pace.

However, during their challenging periods, Vera’s affection for her father remained unwavering. Yet, his lifestyle wasn’t one she aspired to have. We get a better understanding of her upbringing. In my opinion, these experiences mark a full circle in Vera’s life.

Vera’s fourteenth season will debut on ITV1 this coming New Year’s Day, specifically at 8 pm on January 1st. If you’d like to catch up before then, previous episodes can be found on ITVX.
