Vicar of Dibley gets Royal Mail stamps celebrating iconic scenes

2023 sees the release of a fresh collection of twelve commemorative stamps by Royal Mail, honoring one of Britain’s beloved sitcoms: “The Vicar of Dibley.

As a passionate movie buff, I find myself captivated by the collection that showcases pivotal scenes from the beloved sitcom. Yet, it’s the miniature sheet of four stamps that truly intrigues me, for they collectively depict a lively Dibley Parish Council meeting – a gathering not to be missed!

David Gold, who holds the position of Director for External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail, expressed that “The Vicar of Dibley,” with its exceptional writing and endearing, quirky characters, is one of the most cherished television sitcoms ever produced.

“We celebrate the series with new stamps revisiting some of the show’s classic moments.”

Starting from January 14th, these stamps along with other collectible items will be up for grabs at general stores. However, you can pre-order them right now, either through the Royal Mail website or by calling 03457 641 641.

A Presentation Pack including all 12 stamps is priced at £20.10.

For nearly thirteen years, from November 1994 up until January 2007, the charming sitcom “The Vicar of Dibley” graced our BBC screens, encompassing three full seasons and numerous special episodes.

The story unfolded in the make-believe Oxfordshire village named Dibley, centered around a female priest who took charge of the local church.

As a devoted cinephile, I’d like to share some exciting news about a captivating series that truly stole my heart – it’s none other than “The Vicar of Dibley,” a masterpiece created by the brilliant minds of Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer. This show was an absolute delight, with Dawn French, Emma Chambers, Trevor Peacock, Gary Waldhorn, James Fleet, John Bluthal, Roger Lloyd-Pack, and Liz Smith gracing our screens as unforgettable characters. Interestingly enough, these very same talented individuals are now immortalized on stamps! It’s a testament to the enduring impact this series has had on British television.

In 2020, the show made a comeback with a series of brief episodes during lockdown, and in 2021, it also included a special episode for Comic Relief, both featuring French and Fleet resuming their characters in a setting that mimicked video calls.

I’ve just finished working on the enchanting animated Netflix movie “That Christmas,” and I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be starring in an upcoming comedy series titled “Can You Keep a Secret?” which is set to premiere soon, alongside the talented Mark Heap.
