Vin Diesel Confirms Even He Doesn’t Know When Fast X: Part 2 Is Happening (And Asks Universal for News)

Vin Diesel, much like fans, is impatiently awaiting updates about Fast X: Part 2. In a post since edited from his Instagram account, the actor shared a picture of him alongside fellow franchise star Michelle Rodriguez. Originally, in the caption, Diesel implored Universal Pictures, the distributor of the Fast & Furious series, to reveal the release date for Fast X: Part 2, which fans have been eagerly anticipating. Furthermore, Diesel hinted at a “precursor” short film he intends to direct for Fast X: Part 2, showing his eagerness to commence work on the final chapter of his iconic franchise.

After the premiere of “Fast X” in 2023, the production of the next Fast & Furious movie has hit a roadblock. In November 2024, Vin Diesel attributed this delay to disagreements among studios, stating that Universal wants the film released by March 2026, while Comcast (Universal’s parent company) is considering dividing the movie into two parts to make a grand finale for the series. Since its initial planning, the eleventh main Fast & Furious movie has experienced some modifications behind the scenes. Last summer, Tyrese Gibson disclosed that he hadn’t received the script yet.

As of early March, it appeared that Dom Toretto and his family were moving along smoothly, with Diesel expressing plans to film Fast X: Part 2 in Los Angeles this coming summer. Louis Leterrier is set to direct the movie, and he’s openly expressed a wish to release it in theaters by June 2026 to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

It’s uncertain why Diesel modified his initial post’s caption. A plausible theory could be that someone, possibly from Universal or Diesel’s public relations team, contacted him swiftly to amend it. Interestingly, in the original caption, Diesel used #FuelFest, which might hint at the automotive event known for its blend of car show and music festival. Members of the Fast & Furious franchise have appeared at FuelFest as special guests before, leading to speculation that they might be planning a reveal at one of the upcoming events this year. It’s also possible that studio executives didn’t want it to appear as though Diesel (who is a producer for the Fast series) was uncertain about the release date of the next film.

Inevitably, fans are eagerly awaiting some insight regarding the upcoming film, Fast X: Part 2. With its anticipated release in 2026, this movie has the potential to be one of Universal’s most successful future projects, marking a fitting farewell for one of their cherished franchises. Given the importance of delivering a satisfying conclusion to a story spanning decades and honoring a significant milestone, the creative team must exercise caution not to rush the project. However, time is of the essence if Fast X: Part 2 is to hit theaters next summer.
