Vince McMahon Slams Upcoming Netflix Documentary for "Deceptive Narrative"

As a fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of Vince McMahon‘s empire, I find myself both intrigued and disheartened by the upcoming Netflix documentary series, Mr. McMahon. On one hand, I am excited to delve deeper into the life and career of a man who transformed the world of professional wrestling and created larger-than-life characters that captivated millions worldwide. However, on the other hand, I cannot help but feel a sense of unease as more allegations of McMahon’s behavior come to light, casting a dark shadow over his legacy.

As a former gaming enthusiast who’s dabbled in the world of WWE, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the upcoming Netflix docuseries about Vince McMahon, the man behind World Wrestling Entertainment. Although I no longer have any ties with the company, recent events have put a strain on that connection. You see, after numerous sexual assault allegations and a sex trafficking lawsuit from ex-employee Janel Grant, Vince is no longer associated with WWE in any way. It’s fascinating to observe this public dispute unfold.

Netflix’s forthcoming documentary series, titled “Mr. McMahon“, derives its name from the wrestling character that McMahon crafted within WWE throughout his career. The unsavory traits of this character have come to symbolize McMahon, particularly in recent times as an increasing number of accusations about his conduct have surfaced. Nevertheless, McMahon maintains that the series does not portray him truthfully, stating that it has “distorted” many aspects of his life and may lead viewers to accept misleading stories.

Hey there, gaming community! I wanted to share some thoughts about the Netflix documentary I recently took part in. To be honest, I’m glad I joined because it gave the producers a chance to share an unbiased account of my life and the amazing business I’ve built. It was a rollercoaster ride full of excitement, drama, laughter, and even a few tough lessons – all things that are part of any great story.

In many instances, important details have been deliberately omitted or misrepresented, causing intentional confusion among viewers. The show’s creators employ common editing techniques such as using out-of-context footage and dated soundbites to manipulate the audience’s perspective and reinforce a biased narrative. Furthermore, they use legal disputes stemming from an old affair as ‘proof’ that I am truly ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I urge you to remain objective and remember that there are always two sides to every story.

On Monday evening, Attorney Ann Callis released a statement in response to McMahon’s comments regarding the forthcoming documentary.

“For over two years, Vince McMahon allegedly subjected Janel Grant to physical, emotional abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Labeling such heinous actions as an ‘affair’ is a misguided attempt to protect his tattered reputation. Although Ms. Grant has not watched the Mr. McMahon docuseries, we hope it sheds light on his despicable and criminal conduct by truthfully depicting the harsh realities of his abusive and volatile behavior.

From now on, the silence imposed by McMahon on Ms. Grant will be broken. Her harrowing experience, though difficult and agonizing, serves as a beacon for other survivors to find their voices. Our goal is to bring McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and the WWE organization to justice, ensuring that Ms. Grant gets her chance in court.

Attorney Ann Callis, representing Janel Grant – a previous WWE employee who is both a survivor of sexual assault and human trafficking – addressed Vince McMahon tonight with the following response:

As a passionate gamer, I can’t wait to dive into “The Mr. McMahon” docuseries, a six-part exploration into the tumultuous leadership of this industry titan as the company’s ex-CEO. This series is masterfully crafted by Chris Smith, who brought us the captivating Netflix sensation, “Tiger King.” Interestingly, Smith was already knee-deep in the project when recent allegations against McMahon surfaced, leading to some on-the-fly adjustments.

Over the past four years while working on this game, the narrative took some truly jaw-dropping twists and turns, ending in some incredibly intense accusations. The end result is an insightful documentary that we’re proud to say provides a deep and multidimensional depiction of the character and the intricate legacy he left us.

Beginning this coming Wednesday, a six-part documentary titled “Mr. McMahon” will premiere on Netflix. This documentary marks the beginning of a significant new collaboration between Netflix and WWE, with Netflix set to become the exclusive host for the flagship series “Monday Night Raw” starting in 2025, making it the streamer’s home for this program.
