Violent Night Writers Admit What’s Holding Up the Sequel (And It’s David Harbour’s Fault)

With David Harbour on board, it’s bound to be a rollercoaster ride of action and holiday cheer. The sequel to “Violent Night,” titled “Violent Night 2,” will need to accommodate David Harbour’s busy schedule for filming. This week, screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller provided an update on the Christmas thriller, mentioning that Harbour’s schedule will be a key constraint during production. They didn’t specify whether his other commitments are related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or “Stranger Things,” but it’s clear that his numerous projects take precedence.

Miller and Casey shared with Screen Rant that they regrettably had no concrete news about Violent Night 2, such as a production start date or release schedule. Casey added, “We’d love to announce a date, but we don’t have one just yet. Everyone is eager to move forward, so hopefully, we’ll have more definite updates soon. However, it’s challenging to coordinate around David Harbour due to his busy schedule with other large-scale franchises that appear to take precedence over us for some mysterious reason.

Earlier this week, Harbour, Miller, and Casey were found to be responsible for delaying the movie during the script phase. However, they conceded their involvement, with Miller adding that they are making good progress towards finalizing a draft and are almost there. He also mentioned that it’s slightly inconvenient that “Sonic 3” was released at the same time as their deadline, but he considers these issues to be minor problems.

After wrapping up our early-day interviews, we’ll dive straight into working on “Violent Night 2” again. I have a feeling it’s going to be quite an enjoyable project!

It’s quite possible that Miller was talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when he mentioned the “massive movie franchise.” David Harbour has been a key character in the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things, since its debut, but the show is set to conclude in 2025. With the final season approaching, Harbour may have press commitments this year to promote its release, but he won’t need to spend time filming new episodes because there isn’t a confirmed date for Stranger Things Season 5 yet.

It’s been confirmed that David Harbour will return as the Red Guardian in “Thunderbolts”, set for release on May 2nd. There’s a strong possibility he could appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions this year too, according to Miller’s statement. This suggests that the Red Guardian and the Thunderbolts may have a role to play in one of the upcoming Avengers films slated for 2026 or 2027.
