Initially introduced in arcades back in 2006, then launched on consoles in 2007, Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 is now playable on PC through Steam. This isn’t the standard version of the game – it’s actually a port of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., which is similar to Ultimate Showdown but boasts 4K graphics and rollback netcode. You can watch the launch trailer below.
In the game, there are 19 characters you can play with, along with modes such as Arcade, Versus, Rank Match, and Training. Online gameplay can accommodate up to 16 players through Tournaments and League. However, a feature called Quest Mode, which was present in the original version, is missing from both “Ultimate Showdown” and also “R.E.V.O.“. This omission has been pointed out by players in their reviews.
Another issue that’s been raised is the restricted personalization options, as many cosmetic elements are only accessible within the 30th Anniversary Edition priced at $49.99. Currently, this edition and the base game come with a 20% discount until February 3rd.
Absolutely, the resurgence of Sega’s Virtua Fighter is just getting started, as a reboot is underway at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. You can take a look at some in-game footage right here.
