tinyBuild and developer Nikita Sozidar have disclosed that they’re releasing an upgrade for the game VOIN titled “Permafrost” on Early Access. This update introduces a significantly larger setting, meaningful character advancement, and additional features. The release date is set for June.
VOIN is currently in Early Access for PC via Steam.
Here is an overview of the update, via Nikita Sozidar’s latest developer log:
“Permafrost” Developer Log
Hi everyone, I’m Nikita, and for the past year-and-a-half, I’ve been cooking. Take a look.
VOIN represents a first-person action game blended with RPG aspects, offering open-world-style stages. You, in this game, embody an indomitable force of nature who uses metal as your weapon. The world around you is shattered, and you are its retribution.
Items and Affixes
In this game, defeating monsters results in rewards, and these rewards are essentially the lifeblood of the game. Rather than adding attachments that just boost random numbers, I opted to concentrate on elements that significantly alter gameplay. For instance, you could discover a hammer named Bell Ringer, which summons spectral bells. When struck, these bells cause damage to everyone nearby.
Here’s another intriguing example – a formidable scythe that rips through reality, leaving lasting wounds that exude an icy chill. Or, to put it differently, it creates a chilling aura. However, I should avoid using ‘cool’ in this context. Interestingly, you can merge these two concepts into one. Navigate to the symbiosis station at the hub, follow the directions meticulously – they’re crucial – and voila, you possess dual wakizashis that not only poison but also summon whirlwinds of fire. But let’s move on to the next captivating detail now.
The World
In my last significant release, I incorporated a colossal subterranean labyrinth beneath the Cathedral of Veiled Sorrow. Currently, I’m focusing on the game’s next substantial update titled Permafrost. This update introduces an enormous, previously unseen location called the Athenium of Thousand Names. It is characterized by snow-capped mountains, colossal ice beings, and relentless snowstorms, making it a decidedly inhospitable environment.
Among the significant enhancements in this latest version is the long-awaited character advancement system! Venture into the Mirror Sanctum and discover the fresh Talent Orchard (yes, your talent hub is a real tree). Moreover, during your adventure, you’ll encounter Soul Fruits that can be affixed to the tree, granting you numerous advantages – such as the ability to run at high speed. Best of all, you can start enjoying the talent tree update immediately!
Regardless, the game looks fantastic and there’s an abundance of thrilling features on the horizon. For instance, we’re introducing a brand-new character, a variety of novel weaponry such as spears, daggers, and additional types, and even more engaging quests.
All right guys, that’s it for me. Thank you very much and see you next time.
