Wait, Kamala Harris Showed UP at the Met Gala?!

Kamala Harris is steadily making a return to the public eye.

2025’s Met Gala, held on May 5, unexpectedly saw the attendance of the former Vice President of the United States, accompanied by her husband, Doug Emhoff. This event took place six months after she had lost the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election to Donald Trump. (Check out who graced the Met Gala red carpet here.)

Although Trump, who Anna Wintour of Vogue previously stated is not allowed at the Met Gala, did not attend the event, Vice President Harris drew attention in a custom Off-White gown, designed by IB Kamara, the brand’s creative director. The gala was co-chaired by A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams.

In a picture snapped by Cameron Smith, Kamala was seen flaunting her stylish attire that adheres to this year’s “Tailored for You” dress code and fits the theme of the Costume Institute’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibition. In another snapshot, she was pictured alongside Doug, who donned a timeless black suit for the fashion event.

This year’s Met Gala theme is influenced by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity”. In simpler terms, it will delve into how clothing choices help shape Black identities, with a focus on the origin, importance, and spread of the Black dandy style, as Vogue put it.

Harris, affectionately known as “momola” to her stepchildren Cole Emhoff, aged 30, and Ella Emhoff, 25 (from Doug’s previous marriage with Kerstin Emhoff), has been taking a break from the limelight since stepping down from her position associated with President Joe Biden.

In a speech given on November 6, Harris expressed that her heart is overflowing today with feelings of gratitude for your trust, love for our nation, and determination. She went on to explain that the election results were not what we had hoped or worked tirelessly towards, but she emphasized that the spirit of America’s potential will continue to shine brightly as long as we never lose hope and keep striving for change.

Earlier today, I had a conversation with President-Elect Trump, offering my congratulations on his triumph. I also assured him that we would offer assistance during his transition process. The essence of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we respect the results. This principle, more than any other, sets democracy apart from monarchy or dictatorship, and anyone aspiring for public office must uphold it.

Though she assured the crowd that the fight wasn’t over.
