On January 30th, 2026, followers of bending will be treated to a new chapter in the lives of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Prince Zuko with the release of the first animated film for Avatar: The Last Airbender. Notable actors have been announced for the movie’s cast, such as Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Roman Zaragoza, and Jessica Matten. However, another talented actor has recently joined the cast – Steven Yeun, fresh from season three of Invincible. This news was confirmed by Variety.

In this current state, it’s unclear what role Steven Yeun will play in the upcoming story based on Aang’s adulthood, as the announcement did not disclose his character. With his extensive background in voice acting from roles like Mark Grayson in Invincible, Speckle in Tuca & Bertie, and Steve in Trollhunters: Rise of The Titans, Yeun has a wealth of experience in this area. Apart from being renowned for his portrayal of Glenn in AMC’s The Walking Dead, Steven Yeun has also been a significant part of productions such as Beef, Jordan Peele’s Nope, Minari, and many others. Aside from knowing that the film will focus on the adult years of the Aang group, few details about the plot have been disclosed.

Avatar’s Bright Future

In addition to the upcoming animated movie, it was previously announced this year that a fresh and exciting new animated series based on Avatar: The Last Airbender is being developed. Unlike previous characters Aang or Korra, the new series titled Avatar: Seven Havens will introduce a brand new Earth bender as the protagonist. Although Paramount has not yet set a release date for the show, they have shared an official description that goes as follows:

In a perilous time, an adolescent Earthbender learns she’s the next Avatar following Korra. However, instead of being seen as a savior, her title makes her appear as humanity’s destroyer. On the run from both human and spiritual adversaries, she and her long-lost twin embark on a quest to understand their enigmatic past and safeguard the Seven Havens before these final human strongholds crumble.
