Due to time conflicts that forced him out of “Thunderbolts”, popular character from “The Walking Dead” Steven Yeun could potentially find himself joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in another capacity. The actor is reportedly being considered for a part in the upcoming collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony’s joint production.
Based on information from a reliable source, it’s being suggested that actor Yeun could potentially star in the fourth Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland. However, the specific role hasn’t been revealed yet. Recently, Jeff Sneider, a trusted insider, hinted on his podcast with John Rocha that Martin Li/Mister Negative might be the primary antagonist for the upcoming storyline “Brand New Day.” Martin Li, a more recent character in the Spider-Man universe (first introduced in 2007), is both a philanthropist and a ruthless crime lord known as Mister Negative. He uses Darkforce to corrupt whatever he touches as he aims to seize control of New York’s criminal underworld with his Inner Demons gang.
Yeun’s prospective role as Mister Negative follows approximately two years after his initial casting in Thunderbolts, and roughly a year following his withdrawal from the MCU film due to scheduling conflicts stemming from production delays caused by strikes. Originally cast as Bob/Sentry/The Void in Thunderbolts, this role was later reassigned to Lewis Pullman, who starred in Top Gun: Maverick.
Following a six-season tenure on “The Walking Dead” as beloved character Glenn Rhee, Yeun has solidified his status as a movie star, taking on leading roles in the action-horror comedy “Mayhem” (2017), Isaac Chung’s semi-autobiographical drama “Minari” (2020), and Jordan Peele’s science fiction horror film, “Nope” (2022). His latest appearance is in Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17,” a film that underperformed during its theatrical release.
Mister Negative Might Not Be the Only Villain in Spider-Man 4
There’s a lot of buzz swirling around Brand New Day, as Marvel Studios and Sony are keeping tight-lipped about the upcoming sequel, leaving many details shrouded in mystery. It’s been rumored that Sarah Snook from Succession might be up for a secondary antagonist role, a possibility that has fans speculating she could play Silver Sable. Characters like Mister Negative and Silver Sable were also featured in the popular 2018 game, Marvel’s Spider-Man.
It appears that Marvel Studios might be recruiting former inmates for their upcoming film “Brand New Day“. This has led fans to speculate that the movie could delve back into the prison where characters like Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan, who transforms into the comic book villain Scorpion, once resided. Additionally, it is anticipated that J. Jonah Jameson will make a return, but this time as more of a thorn in Spider-Man’s side rather than a full-blown villain.
At present, only Tom Holland, Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things,” and Liza Colón-Zayas from “The Bear” have been confirmed for the cast of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,”, but their roles are yet to be revealed. Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi,” will helm “Brand New Day” and will work from a script penned by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, who have written the screenplays for all the MCU’s “Spider-Man” films. Production for “Brand New Day” is scheduled to commence this summer following Tom Holland’s completion of filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
