As a longtime fan of both Wallace & Gromit and daytime soaps, I find myself in a bit of a quandary this Christmas season. On one hand, I eagerly anticipate the return of the cheese-loving inventor and his canine companion for their first feature film since 2008. The nostalgia of watching Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl on BBC One is too strong to resist.
Now that the Christmas television schedules have been finalized, viewers find themselves facing difficult decisions about what to watch.
What shows will they opt to watch live during the Christmas season, and which ones broadcasted on other networks might they need to record for later viewing or simply miss out on?
The survey posed a straightforward query: On Christmas Day, would viewers opt to watch Wallace & Gromit’s Vengeance Most Fowl on BBC One, airing at 6:50 pm, or back-to-back soap operas on ITV1, with Emmerdale airing at 6:30 pm and Coronation Street following at 7 pm instead?
Ultimately, Wallace & Gromit emerged victorious with an overwhelming 85.3% of votes in favor of their latest movie, leaving soap operas trailing behind with only 14.7%.
It’s not really surprising that Wallace & Gromit emerged as winners – given that no new Wallace & Gromit movie has come out since 2008, when “A Matter of Loaf and Death” was premiered, which happened to be on Christmas Day too.
In 2005, it had been their last big on-screen journey together, as depicted in the movie “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,” that played in theaters.
Indeed, this period marks a significant occasion for soap enthusiasts as they eagerly anticipate the exceptional episodes that air on Christmas Day, where each series spares no effort to deliver their best.
This year, Coronation Street will be airing the departure storyline for Helen Worth’s Gail Platt, while Emmerdale will see Will’s revenge against Kim coming to a head, while a surprise arrival could also be on the cards.
Absolutely, it’s not just these programs that make up the significant events for Christmas Day viewing this year. Other notable shows like the final episode of Gavin & Stacey, the Doctor Who Christmas special, and a two-episode arc of EastEnders are also planned to be broadcast.
