Walton Goggins Hosts SNL After White Lotus Parody Sparks Controversy and Apologies

Walton Goggins has checked out of The White Lotus and is headed to NYC.

In the latest episode of the HBO series, its leading actor is set to take over hosting duties for Saturday Night Live on May 10, featuring Arcade Fire as the musical guest.

On April 24, Walton broadcasted the exciting news by posting the famous sticky note announcement image to both his Instagram Story and feed. This image not only congratulated Quinta Brunson and Benson Boone, but also revealed that Scarlett Johansson and Bad Bunny would join them as additional host pairings.

The announcement was made only a few weeks following an SNL parody of “The White Lotus,” where they renamed the show’s characters with members from President Donald Trump’s administration in a sketch that they labeled as “The White POTUS.

Additionally, while the drawing received praise from certain viewers, it sparked criticism regarding its depiction of Aimee Lou Wood, notably her teeth. Notably, Sarah Sherman from SNL wore a noticeable dental prosthesis during the scene.

Aimee also found the representation offensive, expressing her feelings on social media a day after the episode was broadcasted: “I thought the SNL skit was harsh and not funny. Sending love, xo.

The person from Manchester, England, emphasized, “For goodness sake, make certain you get the accent correct.” He continued, “I value precision, even if it seems harsh. Absolutely, poke fun – that’s what this show is about, but can we find a more intelligent, subtle, and less crude approach?

Later on, it was disclosed that the 31-year-old received apologetic gestures from Saturday Night Live, even displaying a photograph of bouquets of flowers she got from Sarah.

In response to speculations about a potential disagreement with Aimee, Walton humorously commented on a related video, “Hahahahahhahaha amazingggg.

After the contentious incident and the criticism aimed at Aimee’s representation, cast member Bowen Yang pondered over the weighty role of humor.

In an interview with Extra on April 17, Bowen stated that whatever response she had to that drawing was perfectly acceptable. He added that when it comes to parody, one often overlooks the personal, emotional impact it may have.

The 34-year-old went on to say, “It’s easy to overlook this matter occasionally, but I see it as a gentle nudge to remember. It appears she has discussed this with people at the event, and I hope we can find a way to put it behind us.

Moreover, it’s important to acknowledge when humor might overstep boundaries, as Bowen pointed out. Instead of simply asserting our freedom to speak without limits, perhaps we comedians could assume responsibility for this balance between humor and sensitivity.

In the White Lotus, the character Pam, portrayed by Morgana O’Reilly, may appear as if she’ll snatch your phone after you’ve checked in. However, contrary to her on-screen persona, Morgana herself posted a charming photo of her and her husband, Peter Salmon, on her device.

Both Morgana and Peter are alumni of Unitec in New Zealand. Interestingly, they first met each other in New York City, despite having many mutual friends and being in the same line of work. As fate would have it, they fell in love in the bustling city without ever crossing paths before.

Morgana and Peter later tied the knot and had children named Luna and Ziggy. Yet, their family isn’t their only collaboration.
