Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

As a seasoned Space Marine veteran with years of combat under my belt, I must say that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has truly outdone itself! The sheer variety and complexity of enemies we face is nothing short of breathtaking. From the distant-striking sorcerers to the rage-fueled Helbrutes, each foe presents a unique challenge that keeps me on my toes.

To destroy your foe, you need to know your foe.

Space Marine 2: Warhammer 40,000 is now available, offering players an action-packed campaign and multiplayer Operations mode with a heavy emphasis on teamwork. You’ll encounter countless swarms of alien creatures and Chaos warriors throughout these modes. To help you prepare for the battles ahead, here’s a rundown of all the enemies you might face during your gameplay.

This should really go without saying, but you can expect major spoilers ahead if you haven’t played through the campaign and all six of the Operations missions that are available at launch.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 list of Tyranids

In the vast universe of Warhammer 40,000, the Tyranids stand out as an elusive and unforeseeable adversary due to their ever-changing characteristics. This colossal horde is fueled by a collective consciousness known as the Hive Mind, compelled to devour, devour, and continue devouring everything within its reach. The Tyranids from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 originate from Hive Fleet Leviathan, the most colossal and perilous armada ever encountered.

Hormagaunt

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Among your numerous Tyranid foes, the most common and fundamental one is the Hormagaunt. These creatures form the majority of the swarm, scurrying and jumping in groups of dozens simultaneously, accumulating near cliffs to reach you. Although individually they are relatively feeble and can be easily defeated, their sheer numbers pose a challenge if proper planning isn’t employed or if you find yourself surrounded. An effective strategy for managing them often involves eliminating any larger Tyranids in the vicinity, as this will trigger a neural backlash that instantaneously wipes out a portion of the Hormagaunts.

Termagant

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

In many battles, Termagants act as distant adversaries, hurling harm your way. They are more durable than Hormagaunts, yet they can still be swiftly eliminated using most firearms. If a bigger Tyranid creature is killed near them, they won’t immediately perish but will instead be stunned by the recoil, providing you with a reprieve from their ranged attacks and enabling you to move in for some decisive strikes.

Warrior

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Initially appearing menacing, Tyranid Warriors function as leaders for Hormagaunts and Termagants, zeroing in on you to deliver heavy assaults. The majority of them are armed with bone blades, but some may carry whips or ranged weapons instead. Destructive headshots from long-range weapons can eliminate them, or you could first weaken them with a grenade before finishing them off. Their blades can block your attacks, but their melee sequences can be countered and turned against them.

Spore Mine

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Clusters of Spore Mines often hover around, ready to pounce on you suddenly. A direct hit can cause significant harm. Luckily, they are best taken down from afar, so avoid using your heavy firepower. Instead, opt for your sidearm to handle the job more effectively.

Gargoyles

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

While Gargoyles are seen frequently across the skyboxes of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, you’ll only directly fight them a handful of times. Gargoyles will try to chew through something you need to defend, like chains or transmitters. Use a fast-firing ranged weapon like an Auto Bolt Rifle to quickly dispose of them.

Lictor

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Lictors function as solitary hunters, ambushing their prey from afar by jumping and slicing before vanishing and becoming almost undetectable. Encountering multiple Lictors is unusual, but a single one can present a significant difficulty to deal with. If you possess the Auspex ability, it will help you locate the creature even when it’s invisible. Otherwise, remain vigilant and prepare for defense.

Ravener

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

The Ravener has a physical appearance similar to a Tyranid Warrior, featuring a long, serpentine tail. This implies that it can wrap itself around you, immobilizing you, making swift parries crucial for survival. Although its close-combat attacks are hazardous, the Ravener’s real danger lies in its ability to burrow through the battlefield, effortlessly appearing and vanishing. Krak grenades prove very useful when confronting these beings.

Zoanthrope

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Floating Tyranid entities known as Zoanthropes bear a striking resemblance to giant mouths with tails. Often found hovering above Hormagaunts, these beings enhance the abilities of weaker Tyranids below them. It’s crucial to eliminate them promptly due to their ability to amplify the capabilities of other Tyranids. Krak grenades and continuous Bolter fire are your most effective weapons, but be mindful as they can retaliate with potent psychic energy aimed at you.

Neurothrope

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

The Neurothrope is a more evolved, improved version of the Zoanthropes. Larger and more dangerous, the Neurothrope is a boss battle, making it mercifully rarer than its weaker cousins.

Carnifex

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

In the vast expanse of this game, the Carnifex is thankfully seldom seen due to its status as one of the most formidable adversaries you’ll encounter. Armed with short-range organic weaponry and massive tearing claws, a single Carnifex can swiftly decimate a Space Marine unit if caution isn’t exercised. In such situations, it’s best to deploy all your firepower while maintaining agility to dodge and maneuver.

Hive Tyrant

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

The Hive Tyrant is a massive focal point for the Hive Mind, coordinating an entire planetary assault as the swarm seeks more delicious biomass. As such a key element of each swarm invasion, the Hive Tyrant is extraordinarily dangerous, towering over Space Marine and delivering deadly attacks with its weapons. You’ll have to engage the creature in a protracted boss battle after it’s been injured in order to deal the Tyranids a decisive blow. Stay on your feet and just keep hammering it with headshots.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 list of Chaos Forces

In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, chaos erupts, presenting Titus and the Ultramarines with a distorted version of their enemies – the Tyranids and the twisted forces of Chaos from the Thousand Sons Traitor Legion. This means they’ll be battling both biological monstrosities and reflections tainted by chaos in this game.

Cultist

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Cultists are the most basic of your foes, simple humans who follow the lure of Tzeentch. Without any augmentations or mutations, they are extremely weak, peppering you with ranged fire from a distance that isn’t very damaging. Unless in large groups, don’t even both wasting your Bolters on them; simply run through the Cultists you see to turn them into red mist.

Tzaangor

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Tzaangors are peculiar creatures who serve under Tzeentch, the God of Change, and his sorcerers. This service grants them extraordinary physical abilities, causing their bodies to take on bird-like features, mirroring the Daemons associated with Tzeentch. Equipped with curved blades and shields, they can be dangerous in large numbers, but can be effectively controlled using explosives like grenades or powerful weapons such as Plasma Incinerators.

Rubric Marine

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Most of the Thousand Sons have been reduced to dust, stubbornly refusing to adapt and essentially becoming nothingness. Despite this, these largely hollow vessels continue to follow orders from their superiors, raining down focused firepower on their objectives. The Rubric Marines are particularly challenging to eliminate, requiring precise headshots, while heavy weapons such as the Las Fusil and Plasma Incinerator can effectively penetrate their armor in quick succession.

Scarab Occult Terminator

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

The Thousand Sons have Terminators among their forces, and despite these Space Marines becoming powder over time due to corruption, they possess an immense fighting ability. Hefty cannons will swiftly tear you apart, while their melee attacks, comprised of deadly combinations of blades, are among the most lethal in the game. To withstand them, you’ll need your strongest weapons to pierce through their armor and eliminate them as fast as possible.

Thousand Sons Sorcerer

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

The core unit of the Thousand Sons are their Lesser Sorcerers, who despite being affected by Chaos, maintain their corporeal forms. However, such influence brings about some transformations. Suspended over the battlefield, these sorcerers often unleash spectral flames from a distance, creating a rain of fire that also revives fallen Rubric Marines. Given their ability to revive, they become prime targets whenever identified. Yet, attacking them requires precision, as they employ warp shields to deflect damage from various angles and retaliate with powerful counterattacks.

Helbrute

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

As a tech-loving enthusiast, I find myself drawn to these monstrous Dreadnoughts, churned by the madness of a Chaos Space Marine. This mechanical beast is driven by an uncontrollable fury, its insanity palpable in every move it makes. The Helbrutes of the Thousand Sons are equipped with Plasma weapons and a colossal hammer, making them formidable adversaries from both close quarters and afar. However, if you manage to dodge their hammer assaults, a strategic melee attack focusing on their legs and chest could prove beneficial in weakening and eventually defeating them.

Heldrake

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

Heldrakes represent almost the zenith of Daemonic engineering, for they encapsulate a Daemon within a mechanical frame. Equipped with multiple wings and a potent autocannon, these creatures are formidable adversaries. The challenge lies in defeating them since their dark armor provides protection. To inflict damage when they’re exposed, aim your Bolters at their heads.

Imurah

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, you’ll encounter the mastermind behind the Thousand Sons’ incursion, Imurah. Like his fellow sorcerers, he requires swiftness to counteract his staff attacks and cause damage. However, be wary as he possesses the ability to summon a Lord of Change for reinforcement, using it to unleash Warp energies onto the battlefield.

Teeming hordes that grow stronger over time

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — List of all enemies and bosses so far

After finishing the campaign and related Operations, your journey with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is not over yet. We’ve got an expansive plan that stretches into 2025, which includes additional Operations missions being rolled out. These updates will also introduce new adversaries, implying the list of enemies will continue to expand in the future.

If you haven’t started playing it yet, this moment could be perfect! The game is receiving great reviews for its fight sequences and teamwork aspects, so why not invite a buddy to join you on the Battle Barge?

In my evaluation of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, I noted that under the leadership of Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment, Titus and the Ultramarines have returned to action, offering a blood-soaked adventure that is visually impressive, audibly appealing, and simply enjoyable from start to finish. While the narrative may not be groundbreaking, it effectively delivers the Warhammer 40,000 experience in an exhilarating, action-packed journey.

On September 9, 2024, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Preliminary access to the game for Gold and Ultra Edition owners is already available now.
