David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, has chosen to leave his position following a 12-year tenure at the helm of the company’s interactive entertainment sector, as confirmed by an official announcement.
For the upcoming three months, Haddad will continue working with the company. The corporate parents, Warner Bros. Discovery, are currently looking for a replacement and want him to assist in managing the transition period.
According to JB Perrette, the CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery’s global streaming and games division (as reported by Variety), David has strategically selected a moment when our workload is less demanding. This decision will help us maintain continuity with our current projects and long-term strategies while giving this team ample time to seamlessly prepare for their upcoming blockbuster title, potentially setting another record.
Haddad expressed his pride in all the achievements made at Warner Bros. Games during his tenure, stating that it has been a delight to collaborate on and establish renowned gaming series. He remains enthusiastic about the future projects of this gifted team and is eager for the next phase of his career. He will forever be thankful for his time spent with Warner Bros. Games.
Here is the full internal note sent to staff from Perrette announcing Haddad’s exit:
Global Games Team,
It’s time for me to pass along some exciting information – After an impressive 12-year tenure at Warner Bros. Discovery Games, David Haddad has chosen to leave the company.
I’d like to extend heartfelt appreciation on behalf of David Zaslav and everyone at WBD, applauding David for his outstanding work and unwavering passion during his tenure here. It’s been the combined support and relentless efforts from our entire team that has enabled David to steer WB Games towards numerous achievements over the years, in terms of both creativity and commercial success. His vision, skill, and enthusiasm have played a crucial role in shaping one of the most prosperous and respected gaming companies within the industry, guiding us through significant changes and hurdles along the way.
As a fervent admirer, I’d say it’s been an astounding ride transforming a traditional software firm into a digital-led gaming powerhouse, nurturing a prosperous free-to-play mobile game business organically, creating and publishing blockbuster games like Hogwarts Legacy, Game of Thrones Conquest, and Golf Clash that have collectively generated billions, and rekindling the passion of Mortal Kombat fans more than any other period in its 30+ year legacy. Simply breathtaking!
David has carefully picked a suitable moment when our workload is less intense, ensuring minimal interruption to our current projects and strategic agendas, and enabling this team to efficiently prepare for their upcoming blockbuster title. Moreover, David has generously consented to continue working with us for the next three months during which we’ll be searching for a suitable replacement for this key position. This transitional phase will not only facilitate a seamless handover but also give me more chances to interact closely with the Games leadership and deepen my involvement in this exciting industry. I am thrilled at the prospect of getting even closer to you all during this time.
As someone who’s been gaming for 12 years under the same leadership, I understand that change can feel challenging and uncomfortable. We in the industry, and especially at WBD, have experienced our share of changes. Yet, it’s also a chance for fresh ideas, new viewpoints, and crafting an extraordinary new chapter for our fans and the business – something I’m genuinely excited to experience with you.
Hey there fellow gamers! I bet you’ve got a ton of queries swirling in your mind due to this latest news. Don’t worry, David and I are planning to get together with all of you at the upcoming Town Hall meeting. We understand that there might be more questions than answers at the moment, but we’re eager to address what we can and clear up any confusion as best as we can. See you there!
It’s great news that we’ll get an extended opportunity to honor and appreciate David. I’m sure we can both extend our preliminary congratulations now, and I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional journey he has guided us through.
