As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that come next month, I’ll be graced with the esteemed BAFTA Fellowship award during their televised event. This recognition is in appreciation of my four-decade journey in bringing captivating characters to life on screen.
The actor’s acting journey began in the 1980s, as he worked with Lucasfilm on the movie Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and the hit fantasy film Willow. More recently, this project has been continued as a sequel series on Disney+.
In the Harry Potter movie saga, he portrayed Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook among other characters. His work also extended to films like The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Jack the Giant Slayer, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and the Leprechaun series.
Beyond his diverse acting portfolio, BAFTA recognizes Davis for his advocacy efforts towards a more equitable film industry, utilizing his influence to “challenge deeply rooted biases and promote self-advocacy” among individuals with dwarfism.
Davis heads up Willow Management, a unique agency specializing in representing both diminutive (under five feet) and exceptionally tall (over seven feet) performers. Beyond this, he is the creator of charitable organizations such as Little People UK and the Reduced Height Theatre Company.
As a devoted admirer, I feel that The Fellowship truly embodies the essence of inclusivity, originality, and teamwork which BAFTA represents. Receiving this recognition isn’t merely about the collection of work I’ve produced; it’s also about the individuals who’ve supported me throughout my journey and the spectators who have made each step meaningful.
I gratefully take up this Scholarship, acknowledging all those who live with dwarfism or any kind of diversity. This serves as a reminder that our individuality could be our most powerful strength.
I’d like to give a shout-out to my fantastic peers and companions who work diligently backstage – costume designers, makeup artists, and camera teams. They unassumingly dedicate their passion to each project we undertake with quiet persistence.
He expressed gratitude from deep within saying, “Thank you for this extraordinary honor. I eagerly anticipate furthering my efforts in showcasing unique viewpoints, advocating for improved diversity, and inspiring upcoming creators to aim high.
“Thank you, BAFTA, for believing in my journey.”
Tonight, The One Show revealed some news, and during the show, Davis was accompanied by young talent Lenny Rush. At just 14 years old, Lenny Rush has earned a spot among BAFTA’s youngest winners for his exceptional performance in BBC’s comedy-drama Am I Being Unreasonable?.
Sara Putt, head of BAFTA, expressed her joy: “We’re thrilled to bestow the BAFTA Fellowship award upon Warwick Davis; our greatest accolade. Warwick, a gifted individual adored by many and an enduring inspiration, has enthralled audiences for numerous years.
Warwick has left an indelible mark on the film industry, both through his unforgettable acting roles and his tireless efforts to promote greater diversity and empathy within it. He’s played a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and compassionate world on and off the screen.
Admired immensely by his fellow professionals not only in Britain but also worldwide due to his incredible inventiveness and fervor for storytelling, we here at BAFTA are delighted to honor his outstanding career and accomplishments at the EE BAFTA Film Awards coming up next month.
