Astro Bot boasts a sleek, polished design, minimizing issues like bugs and glitches. However, even this smoothness can’t deter speedrunners from delving deep into the game.
I just caught up with the latest installment of IGN’s Devs React to Speedruns series, where I got to see a group of Team Asobi developers marveling at the incredible skills of speedrunner Bdud5! He navigated through stages at breakneck speeds, leaving me in awe of his mastery over the game.
Currently, Bdud5 boasts one of the swiftest times in the “Any%” category, which means he reaches the game’s conclusion as rapidly as possible without focusing on total completion. The video offers a glimpse into his attempts at specific levels, showcasing some truly remarkable skips and techniques.
If you’re interested, the Any% record for this game is more than two hours long, which indicates that it’s not a quick speedrun. This is due to the fact that Astro Bot requires players to gather specific numbers of Bots in order to unlock subsequent areas, so a direct path to a level’s objective isn’t always feasible.
However, as evidenced in this video, there are plenty of corners that can be cut.
You can bypass the boss fight for the Wako Tako, if you’re familiar with the right swimming paths and know where to find the exit. There are some clever platforming moves and sneaky shortcuts in stages like Downsize Surprise, Slo-Mo Casino, and Hieroglitch Pyramid that make it worth exploring these levels.
The watch is remarkably impressive, with its impact even more noteworthy due to the enthusiastic responses it elicited from game directors Nicolas Doucet, Jamie Smith, and Sebastian Brueckner.
