Discussions about Hulk Hogan have been buzzing since his appearance on the premiere of WWE’s Monday Night Raw on Netflix, and he was brought up again tonight in a different context. Instead of being there in person this time, it was CM Punk who mentioned his name. However, this wasn’t a tribute; rather, Punk listed all the individuals he intends to face at the Royal Rumble in order to challenge for the Title, and Hogan was one of them. To add fuel to the fire, during his promo, Punk criticized Hogan quite harshly. Furthermore, Hulk Hogan’s presence was notably absent from the Saturday Night’s Main Event promotional video, suggesting that his previous appearance may have had an impact on this situation.
In a lively atmosphere amidst chatter, Punk conducted an interview with Jackie Redmond, discussing the intense competition he’s encountering in the Rumble. During the conversation, Punk named several formidable opponents such as Roman Reigns, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Sami Zayn initially. However, his discourse took a turn when he brought up Hogan.
Punk declared, “If you include Hulk Hogan in the Royal Rumble, I’ll toss him out of the ring with a powerful throw and finally end Hulkamania.” The delivery was impressive, but the mention of Hogan resonated strongly, causing the crowd to erupt with enthusiasm. Additionally, Redmond’s reactions added an extra layer of excitement to the segment. You can view the promo here.
During his promo, Punk didn’t spare anyone, including Reigns, Zayn, McIntyre, and Cena. If WWE aimed to minimize attention on Hogan on TV, they might have discouraged Punk from attacking him as forcefully as he did. However, it appears acceptable at this point, given that the Saturday Night’s Main Event is just around the corner.
It’s intriguing to note that the promotional ad for Saturday Night’s Main Event during Raw focused solely on the major matches lined up, with Rhea Ripley facing Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s World Championship added to the card. Additionally, we have Gunther versus Jey Uso, Braun Strowman against Jacob Fatu, and Sheamus squaring off against Bron Breakker. Interestingly, in previous promos, Hogan was a prominent figure, but he was noticeably absent from this advertisement.
It’s quite possible that WWE intended to emphasize the matches, given that a significant one was recently announced during the broadcast. However, it’s also noticeable that Punk’s promo and Hogan’s absence from advertisements suggest a shift in their strategy.
I’d like to know your thoughts about Punk’s latest promo. Feel free to discuss all things wrestling with me on Bluesky @knightofoa!
