Intrigued by the latest installment of TopMob Insider, I delve deep into the rollercoaster journey of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Despite its current triumph, both in critical acclaim and player base (recently surpassing 6 million players), this game had a rocky start, being canceled as far back as 2012. It was resurrected years later, but the Ukraine-based developer GSC Game World faced an additional hurdle: creating the game amidst Russia’s aggressive invasion of their country.
TopMob journeyed to the fresh GSC Game World headquarters in Prague for a face-to-face chat with the developers about the challenging journey of releasing Stalker 2. In the enlightening 40-minute documentary, the developers recount harrowing experiences from the game’s production, such as how a fire added another obstacle to the project’s path. The documentary reveals that around 200 GSC employees fled Ukraine due to the conflict and set up a new office in Prague, but over 200 chose to stay in Kyiv.
