Musician Wayne Osmond has passed away aged 73, his brother has confirmed.

One of the founding members of The Osmond Brothers, a vocal and instrumental group, was also a singer and guitarist. This band consisted of him, Alan, Merrill, and Jay, and they were known for their barbershop music in their home city of Ogden, Utah.

Over time, siblings Donny and Jimmy ended up joining a band that came to be recognized as The Osmonds. They gained fame after early performances on The Andy Williams Show and The Jerry Lewis Show during the 1960s.

In the 1970s, they attained chart fame and went on to sell nearly 80 million records globally from their inception. However, their fame started to diminish towards the end of the decade, leading “Steppin’ Out” released in 1979 to be their last.

Following those years, I’ve remained an avid fan as Wayne and his brothers graced stages together, eventually hanging up his performance shoes in the late 00s. However, the magic of their music drew him back twice in 2018 – one of these captivating performances was a heartfelt gift to his beloved sister, Marie, on her special day.

Wayne’s brother Merrill said in a statement that the cause of death was a stroke.

In a heartfelt post on Facebook, Merrill expressed that when he heard about his beloved brother Wayne suffering a massive stroke, he instinctively knelt down to offer a prayer. His hope was for Wayne to find comfort in knowing his life’s mission had been fulfilled and he had achieved success in numerous ways.

“I immediately drove to the hospital in SLC to see him and I was able to say my goodbyes.

My brother was already a remarkable saint before entering this world, and I believe he’ll depart as an even more profound one. He is a man who exudes extraordinary humility, possesses no deceit whatsoever, and forgives swiftly. His capacity for unconditional love extends to everyone he encounters.

His leaving this world will bring sorrow to some, yet for those eagerly anticipating him elsewhere, it promises an extraordinary celebration far beyond our comprehension.

My sibling, Wayne, faced numerous challenges. He poured his heart and soul into everything he did. His remarkable impact on music and spirituality will forever be remembered, not just as a prodigious composer, but also as someone who moved millions with his melodies and guided them towards a deeper connection with the Divine.

“I’ll deeply mourn his absence. Growing up with him feels like having been nurtured by one of the most remarkable souls sent from above. Until we meet again, please remember he was cherished.
