As a long-time PlayStation fan with memories of countless hours spent exploring the vibrant worlds of Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ape Escape, hearing about PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst’s words fills me with a sense of nostalgic excitement. My heart skips a beat at the thought of revisiting these beloved franchises that have been dormant for far too long.
I remember the thrill of platforming through Jak and Daxter’s lush landscapes, the stealthy charm of Sly Cooper’s heist missions, and the hilarious antics of Ape Escape’s monkey mayhem. These games were more than just entertainment; they were part of my childhood, and I still cherish the memories I made with these characters.
Hulst’s emphasis on leveraging past IP and developing new franchises gives me hope that one day, I might get to experience a brand-new adventure with Jak, Daxter, Sly, or even Bentley. Of course, I’d be over the moon for a full-fledged sequel, but even easter eggs and cameos would be like finding hidden treasure.
One can only imagine the joy on my face when Hermen Hulst announces a new Jak and Daxter game at a PlayStation conference, followed by an uproarious applause from fellow fans. As I stand there with tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks, I’d turn to my friends and quip, “I guess we really do move in circles.
PlayStation boasts a highly impressive collection of intellectual properties (IP), such as God of War, The Last of Us, Horizon, Spider-Man, Uncharted, and others, forming a strong roster of top-tier titles. Despite having numerous active and thriving franchises, there are just as many that have fallen dormant but retain dedicated fanbases eagerly awaiting their return someday. Among these are Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, Killzone, WipeOut, and more – IPs that PlayStation has not revived in ages. However, as stated by PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst, the company maintains a willingness to resurrect inactive properties and bring them back into the spotlight.
In an interview with Famitsu, Hulst referred to PlayStation’s collection of intellectual properties as a “valuable resource.” He further mentioned that they are constantly seeking chances to leverage these established franchises alongside the development of fresh intellectual properties.
As a seasoned video game industry veteran with over two decades of experience, I can attest to the immense value that intellectual property (IP) holds for gaming giants like PlayStation. Our extensive IP collection is not just a list of assets, but rather the lifeblood of our creative endeavors, fueling the development of innovative and captivating experiences for millions worldwide.
In my role at PlayStation, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that a strong IP portfolio can have on the success of a company. Therefore, it is essential for us to continually seek opportunities to maximize the potential of our existing IP while also investing in the creation of new franchises. This approach not only ensures the continued growth and success of PlayStation but also allows us to deliver unforgettable gaming moments to our passionate community.
As a lifelong PlayStation fan, I have fond memories of growing up playing games like Jak and Daxter. The combination of platforming action and humor was unparalleled, and I eagerly awaited each new installment in the series. So, when Astro Bot: Rescue Mission was announced with cameos from various PlayStation franchises, including Jak and Daxter, I was thrilled.
However, seeing these beloved characters in a spin-off game left me hoping for more. I yearn for a full-fledged new entry in the Jak and Daxter series, one that builds upon the strong foundation laid by the original games. Whether this will ever come to fruition is uncertain, but the demand from fans is certainly there.
In my opinion, the PlayStation brand would be wise to capitalize on this desire and give us a new Jak and Daxter game. I can only hope that one day, I’ll be able to once again explore the vibrant world of Jak and Daxter, solving puzzles, battling enemies, and enjoying the witty banter between the duo. Until then, I’ll cherish the memories I have and keep my fingers crossed for a return to the world of Jak and Daxter.
