We chat to actor James Dreyfus about his career and his favourite films …….

As a dedicated cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of British television and cinema over the decades, I must say that my conversation with James Dreyfus was nothing short of enlightening. His journey from the small screen to the big screen, and his diverse roles spanning from sitcoms to dramas, is a testament to his versatility as an actor.

Initially gaining recognition through a minor part in Absolutely Fabulous, actor James Dreyfus ultimately became a well-known figure with his role as PC Goody in The Thin Blue Line, a sitcom written by Ben Elton and featuring Rowan Atkinson in the lead, alongside an extensive cast. Remarkably, he delivered a performance that stood out among all others in the two series before moving on to star alongside Kathy Burke in another successful yet somewhat contentious sitcom titled ‘Gimme. Gimme, Gimme’.

After that, he’s made appearances in various roles that have garnered attention, such as Notting Hill alongside Hugh Grant, where he played a memorable character at Grant’s bookshop. He’s also earned accolades for his stage work. His career spans a wide range of projects, from popular TV shows like Holby City, Midsommer Murders, and more recently House of the Dragon, to roles in Dr Who as The Master and appearances in Whitechapel, Father Brown, Shameless, Harry & Megan: Becoming Royal, and the lesser-known film Supernova.

We had the opportunity to chat with James about his career working with Rowan Atkinson, Jennifer Saunders and a whole load of others. He also spoke quite candidly about his forthright opinions that have courted controversy even to the detriment of his career. James also revealed the films that he is enthused by which may well surprise  you in his choices. It was an absolute privilege to chat to James at such length and he revealed a role that he’s keen to play that’s like nothing you have seen him do before…..casting directors take note!
