We May Know Another Marvel Star Returning for Avengers: Doomsday (& Secret Wars)

It seems that Hayley Atwell may be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant role, as suggested by top-tier legal circles. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Power Lawyers feature, attorney Julian Zajfen from Ziffren Brittenham has brokered a deal for Atwell to star in both Avengers 5 and 6. This news follows buzz about which familiar characters could reappear in Marvel’s upcoming crossover events, with Zajfen representing other prominent figures such as Dick Wolf, Eddie Murphy, and Darren Star, lending credence to this casting rumor.

Previously, Hayley Atwell played Peggy Carter in various Marvel productions such as the Captain America movies and her own ABC show. Lately, she was seen assuming the role of the super-powered Captain Carter version in the animated Marvel’s What If…? series on Disney+. She also made a brief appearance as the character in live-action during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Regarding that cameo, it stirred up some disagreement. Atwell, in fact, voiced her displeasure over the swift demise of her character at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. During a chat on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Atwell admitted she felt aggrieved by Captain Carter’s portrayal. She pointed out that the hero famously said “I could do this all day,” but was then swiftly killed using her own shield as a projectile.

Atwell disclosed that she challenged the direction of her scene on set.

In the interview, she mentioned that she had a conversation with the director regarding the issue and proposed minor adjustments to the camera and lighting setup. However, when her idea was initially turned down, Atwell remained resolute. Later, when the director accused her of bullying, Atwell retorted humorously, “You can’t intimidate me. I’ve got a jetpack on!

On various Mission: Impossible film sets, where she worked alongside Tom Cruise, the actress attributes that time as instrumental in developing her confidence to assert herself more strongly during movie productions.

It’s uncertain which version of Atwell’s character will appear in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and likely “Avengers: Secret Wars”, but it might be Captain Carter (the original Peggy Carter), a character from another universe, or even a completely new variation.

It seems the upcoming Avengers films are set to intertwine narratives from various dimensions and alternative realities, drawing on the multiverse concept Marvel has been building across its latest movies and series.

The two-part “Avengers” series marks Marvel’s next endeavor in crafting a grand, interconnected storyline, following “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”. Given the introduction of multiverse concepts within their universe, it seems that weaving together characters from various time periods and realities is becoming a key narrative strategy for Marvel.

Marvel Studios hasn’t made any official statement about Atwell’s rumored participation in the forthcoming projects, as of now.
