Weird Al Yankovic Announces New Music for the First Time in Years

As a long-time fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic, I’m thrilled to hear that he’s releasing new music after a decade-long hiatus! While it’s unclear whether this will be a parody or an original song, the anticipation is palpable. His last new song, “Now You Know,” was released as part of the soundtrack for the biopic about his life in 2022.

“After a ten-year break, the Grammy-winning musician and comedian, “Weird Al” Yankovic, will unveil a new single this Friday. He’s kept it under wraps whether it’s an original composition or a parody of someone else’s work. Additionally, there’s no information about a physical release for the single, although given the current digital trend, it seems plausible that it will only be available online.”

As a longtime fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic, I’ve eagerly anticipated each new release from him, whether it be an album or a music video parody. However, it has been quite some time since we’ve received a fresh, original song from the master of musical satire – all the way back to 2020, when he collaborated with Portugal the Man on “Who’s Gonna Stop Me?”

In 2023, I shared with ComicBook my thoughts about not creating another traditional full-length album. The soundtrack was released the previous year, but it wasn’t a solo project; instead, it was a compilation of different artists’ works. I’m not abandoning music – I plan to unveil at least one fresh tune next year. However, I dislike the conventional approach of accumulating twelve songs before releasing them all at once. Instead, when an idea strikes me and I believe it’s worth sharing, I want the freedom to make it public instantly, which is now possible since I’m not bound by any record label or business model.

Since 1983, Al Yankovic‘s music career took off with his first self-titled album following four years of solo tunes, initially showcased on Dr. Demento’s radio program. Between then and 2014, he produced a total of 15 studio albums. Additionally, over the course of these years, he issued 14 compilation albums that occasionally incorporated fresh content. In recent news, his latest project is the “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” soundtrack for the biopic launched in 2022. Earlier this summer, he dropped a YouTube video satirizing the Biden/Trump debate using autotune – marking the third successive U.S. presidential election where such a parody was created.

Keep an eye on Yankovic’s YouTube and Instagram channels as that’s usually where he shares new songs and updates. He hasn’t announced a definite release time yet.
