What are Amphibians in Monster Hunter Wilds?

In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, the category of Amphibians is among the least diverse, with this trend also present in earlier series installments. Notably, Amphibians were introduced in Monster Hunter 4, featuring creatures like Tetsucabra and its variations. However, they were missing in action in World. In Wilds, if you’re tasked with hunting an Amphibian, your options are quite limited, as there is primarily one large species to focus on.

In this Monster Hunter Wilds manual, you’ll discover the identities of the two amphibious creatures residing in the Wilds, along with some insights into their behaviors.

Monster Hunter Wilds Amphibians

Initially, Wilds features a single, large amphibian and a smaller one at its debut. These creatures are brand new additions, with none of the Amphibians from Monster Hunter 4 appearing in this game yet. However, Capcom may introduce additional monsters through free updates down the line.

Chatacabra

In the game, you’ll encounter your first hunt with Chiataca, a colossal armored frog. Despite being associated with water due to its frog nature, Chiataca doesn’t use elemental attacks and won’t afflict you with status effects. However, it can knock you down using its long tongue, making you susceptible to subsequent attacks.

In simpler terms, Chatacabra is vulnerable to ice and thunder attacks. However, during the initial stages of the campaign, you won’t be able to use these types of attacks. But as you advance in rank and progress into post-game quests, you’ll gain access to weapons that have complete skill trees for both elements.

Windward Plains is the only place you’ll find Chatacabra.

Gelidron

Gelidron is considered a tiny beast found in Oilwell Basin. They often hide until their prey comes near, but if you manage to spot them, farming them can help you gather raw meat for well-cooked steaks. Since they’re small monsters, defeating them requires minimal attacks and they pose little danger.

To better tackle challenges in Monster Hunter World, make sure you’re familiar with decorations and understand the distinction between High Rank A and B armor sets. This knowledge will empower you to overcome any obstacles that appear during the game’s post-story mode.
