As a fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the whirlwind of love triangles and cultural clashes that is Emily in Paris, I must say, this season has been a rollercoaster ride! The dynamic between Emily, Gabriel, and Camille has been nothing short of intriguing.

*Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 4 part one of Emily in Paris*

In Season 4 of Emily in Paris, the characters experience numerous alterations, among which is Emily’s deepening romantic connection with Gabriel.

At last, the indecisive pair found their way back to each other during the masquerade ball, reminiscent of a scene from Bridgerton. They shared a moment and left together in a carriage headed home. However, there’s an issue: his former fiancée, Camille.

Following a short absence, Camille comes back to Paris where she encounters Sofia, her girlfriend, and Gabriel, who she was involved with secretly. Deciding to remain in Paris with Sofia, they find themselves without a place to live temporarily. As such, they move in with Gabriel, initially residing in his compact studio apartment.

In an unusual arrangement, the boundaries between Camille and her ex, Gabriel, become hazy. During a preview dinner at his restaurant, Gabriel extends an invitation to both Camille and Sofia, setting the stage for what appears to be a double date. As he converses with Camille in French, their private exchange leaves Emily and Sofia uncomfortable, suggesting a lingering connection between them.

Emily finds it troubling that Camille continues to play such a large role in Gabriel’s life, as she is both his former fiancée and the mother of his upcoming child. Given their circumstances, it seems unavoidable that their lives will remain entwined. In an effort to accept Camille, Emily makes adjustments to her social calendar, including postponing or arranging unusual outings such as rooftop dates, in order to find some privacy for the new couple.

As Emily grapples with her emotions, the blurred lines between her relationships grow increasingly difficult to overlook. She manages forced smiles during encounters like ex-lovers embracing affectionately or Gabriel assisting her with heavy moving tasks, until she reaches a breaking point where she can no longer contain it. In a heated moment, Emily storms to the landlord to assertively declare that there are three individuals illegally residing in one apartment, ultimately leading to Camille and Sofia having to vacate the premises.

Gabriel learns from her about her angry outburst, which he had similarly shared with the landlord. Struggling with the privacy issues and overcrowding in their flat, he hadn’t known how to express his feelings to Emily or Camille. This moment of openness sparks a conversation, and Emily tentatively sets boundaries by suggesting a date with Gabriel – not on the rooftop, but instead in a less crowded, more intimate location that isn’t filled with past relationships.

Additionally, they enjoy their private evenings and wrap up their day with a leisurely walk home, culminating in the exchange of long-anticipated ‘I love you’s’. Yet, as Camille observes, it appears that their intricate relationship may not maintain this delightfully straightforward state.

As the last episode concludes, Gabriel enthusiastically embraces Emily in a joyous instant, then turns to Camille for another hug. He exclaims: ” Frankly, I’ve got it all – an excellent restaurant, a wise and attractive girlfriend, and a baby coming soon. I couldn’t ask for more; I’m the luckiest guy out there.”

What Emily in Paris’s big argument for Emily and Gabriel reminds us about healthy relationships

As someone who has navigated the complexities of modern relationships, I cannot help but be struck by how intricate and tangled they can become. Many of us find ourselves entangled with exes in various ways – through shared children, pets, or even financial obligations. This season brilliantly explores these complications, shedding light on the delicate balance required to maintain healthy connections while respecting personal boundaries.

In my perspective as a movie critic, the series ends ambiguously, with Gabriel maintaining an uncomfortably close bond with both Camille and Emily. His arm is casually slung across them in a tender embrace, Camille clinging tightly to him, her chest pressed against his. However, the upcoming part two might shake things up significantly. The shocking revelation that Camille’s pregnancy might be false could alter their dynamic drastically. Additionally, if Emily speaks up about her boundaries concerning Gabriel’s behavior towards his ex, it could potentially strain their relationship and create a distance between them.

It appears that if things continue as they are, there’s a chance Emily and Gabriel might not stay together. In the closing scene, Emily seems dejected, suggesting she may feel resentful towards Gabriel for his excessive involvement in Camille’s life. Every special moment between them seems to be shared with Camille, which might be taking a toll on their relationship.

Despite Emily not clearly expressing her comfort levels regarding Gabriel, it’s unclear how she feels towards him. However, Sofia’s discomfort over Gabriel’s presence in their lives was so profound that she decided to break up with Camille and return to Greece.

I truly hope Emily learns from past blunders and establishes firm boundaries with Gabriel to ensure their bond doesn’t get overshadowed by his previous relationship. A robust relationship requires boundaries, and without them, it may not thrive. If she fails to do so, another heartache might be in store for our fashionable lady Emily.
