What happened to Ste Hay on Hollyoaks? Storyline explained amid time jump

As a long-time connoisseur of soap operas, I must say, the latest twist in Hollyoaks has me hooked! Ste Hay, a character I’ve been following since 2006, has once again found himself in the midst of chaos – this time, surviving a car bomb explosion. It seems like fate loves to test this man’s resilience!

At last, fans get clarity on who made it through the Hollyoaks leap in time, and it turns out that fan-favorite character, Ste Hay (portrayed by Kieron Richardson), is one of the survivors, continuing to thrive!

Since 2006, Ste has consistently played a significant role in the Channel 4 soap. This isn’t the first instance where he’s been involved in a bomb explosion – back in 2013, an identical explosive device destroyed his apartment, but Ste managed to survive.

Indeed, I’ve had my share of turmoil and upheaval, but here I am, a year later, working diligently to piece together the fragments of my life after the ordeal I’ve been through. The series has moved forward, and so have I.

However, let’s uncover the sequence of events that preceded these incidents, and discover what ultimately befell Steve in the current Hollyoaks narrative.

What happened to Ste on Hollyoaks?

Ste was eventually pardoned for his brief romance with new arrival Rex (portrayed by Jonny Labey, a former EastEnders cast member), and was overjoyed to be back together with his husband James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan). James felt a great sense of relief when he discovered that Ste wasn’t dying, as he had feared for several weeks.

Together with Ste’s daughter Elá-May Demircan (Leah Barnes) and son Oscar Curtis (Lucas Hay), Ste and James eagerly anticipated a joyful shared future. Regrettably, that future they longed for never materialized.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me share an intriguing twist: The unexpected character Blue, formerly known as Dave Chen-Williams (previously seen on Emmerdale with Dominic Power), had secretly placed a bomb in Donny Clark’s vehicle (a familiar face from Brookside, Louis Emerick) before meeting his untimely end at the hands of Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham).

Unaware of what was happening, Donny let Ste and James borrow his car since their own was out of commission. However, it should be noted that Rex, knowing about Blue’s scheme, had previously disarmed a bomb concealed beneath James’s vehicle.

As James turned on Donny’s vehicle, it suddenly and dramatically blew up. The captivating finale of Hollyoaks ended with this shocking twist, and then skipped forward by a whole year…

Why was Ste in a coma on Hollyoaks?

In tragic circumstances, I lost my dear friend, James, to an explosion. Remarkably, Steve, another friend of ours, was reportedly rescued from the wreckage but lingered in a coma for a full year. My heartfelt companion, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard), stood vigilantly awaiting updates on his condition.

At the same instant when Leah was calling out for her father during childbirth, Ste stirred awake in his hospital bed.

At the time, it was verified that Lucas was in custody at Young Offenders, following a violent altercation with JJ Osborne (portrayed by Ryan Mulvey). This confrontation occurred after JJ’s mistreatment of his twin sister, Frankie (played by Isabelle Smith), had come to light.

Initially, Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter), who was pregnant, chose to conceal the circumstances of Leah and Lucas from Ste. Instead, she informed him that James was deceased. However, Ste found it hard to accept this news, as he asserted that he was aware James had been playing his favorite music near his deathbed.

It was discovered that the one creating the melodies was actually a rehabilitated Rex, who managed to avoid prison for his offenses linked to Blue. As of now, it’s assumed that Blue is absent, which implies that Robbie likely hid his body swiftly when this occurred.

It became apparent that Rex and Grace Black, played by Tamara Wall, were actually siblings. Moreover, Rex found himself falling for Ste.

However, since Steve wasn’t present during the time when Rex altered his behavior, he strongly held Rex responsible for all the unfortunate events, swearing to take revenge.

In an unintentional slip, Jessica Fox as Nancy Osborne disclosed the location of Lucas. Meanwhile, Ste was overjoyed meeting his newest grandchild, but was later shocked to find out that Leah plans to place her child up for adoption.

The dark-haired infant alongside Dillon Ray’s (Nathaniel Dass) significant care for Leah, sparked speculation as to whether Leah had possibly been unfaithful to Lucas by spending the night with his partner.

Based on what Nancy has mentioned, it’s possible that Charlie Dean could be the child’s father.

However, Ste received yet another surprise when Leah proposed another possible path for her child’s future: Ste could care for the young lad, allowing Leah to pursue her studies at a U.S. university. Needless to say, this was quite a request, considering Ste is still in recovery.
