What happened with Phillip Schofield? This Morning exit explained

As a seasoned observer of the entertainment industry and someone who has spent years navigating its complexities, I find myself deeply saddened by the recent turn of events involving Phillip Schofield and ITV. The revelation that trust was misplaced not only between Schofield and his employer but also among colleagues is a harsh reminder of the human element in this business.

Phillip Schofield is making his TV comeback – 16 months after his exit from ITV’s This Morning.

On a Channel 5 show called “Phillip Schofield: Cast Away,” the star is set to be featured. This program will chronicle the journey of the ex-host who finds himself stranded on a tropical island near Madagascar for ten days and nine nights.

In his own words, Schofield expressed that the programme offered him an opportunity for “reflection on the missteps.

“This is most definitely a first for me, and the only thing I felt compelled to do,” he said.

I found it incredibly appealing in various aspects. Lately, I’ve been pondering over my life experiences, reflecting on both successes and failures, yet I’ve always felt securely enveloped by the supportive embrace of friends and family.

On this occasion, I’ll be going solo, leaving behind all electronic devices, comforts, and companionship. The only indulgence I have is a tube of lip balm. I’m excited to embark on an adventure, learning to knot for securing my shelter, scavenging food, and surviving in the wilderness… entirely on my own.

He commented, “Perhaps I’ll become a solitary castaway like Robinson Crusoe, or perhaps I’ll simply transform into the soccer ball ‘Wilson’ from Cast Away, drifting peacefully into the vast open sky.

After Schofield expressed uncertainty about resuming a TV career during an interview with Amol Rajan on the BBC in June, he also discussed his exit from “This Morning” and his separation from his previous employer ITV, as well as his former talent agency YMU.

He lamented, “Discussing television in the past tense is heart-wrenching for me. It feels like I’ve lost everything.” He expressed.

Previously, Schofield confessed in a statement released to The Daily Mail on May 26, 2023, that he had been involved in a relationship with a junior coworker from “This Morning,” which, while imprudent, was not illegal.

At the given moment, he openly admitted: “I deeply acknowledge that I deceived my employers at ITV, my colleagues, friends, agents, media, public, and most significantly, my family. I feel incredibly remorseful, just as I am for having been untrue to my spouse.

Delve into the following for the most recent updates regarding Schofield’s departure from This Morning and ITV, along with statements from the ex-host, ITV, YMU, and Holly Willoughby.

Phillip Schofield quit This Morning on Saturday 20th May 2023 in a statement.

He announced his resignation, effective immediately, as his final episode had aired just two days ago on the 18th of May, 2023.

The news emerged subsequent to rumors of a disagreement or strain between Schofield and his co-host, Holly Willoughby.

At that point, Schofield stated: “I’ve always taken pride in sharing intriguing tales on This Morning. Lately, however, This Morning has turned into the very tale I’m reporting.

Over the course of my television career, even during challenging times like these recent ones, I’ve consistently striven to be honest and compassionate. I recognize that ITV feels the circumstances we’re in cannot continue as they are, and I am committed to taking whatever actions necessary to safeguard the show I hold dear.

“I’ve decided to leave This Morning right away, hoping it will pave the way for a bright future. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has stood by me, particularly the wonderful viewers of This Morning. I’ll be seeing you all at the Soap Awards next month.

Initially, it was planned for the presenter to come back to ITV in June to emcee the British Soap Awards. However, on May 26th, 2023, Schofield declared that he was leaving ITV altogether and would no longer be hosting the awards or any other program.

After learning that his talent agency, YMU, had parted ways with him due to conflicting accounts he provided, Schofield announced via the Daily Mail that he was relinquishing his positions at ITV.

Schofield shared with Deadline a statement expressing deep sorrow: “After 35 years, I’ve decided to part ways immediately with YMU, who have expertly managed my career all this time.

Schofield admitted to ITV, colleagues, friends, agents, the media, and the public that he has deceived them all, including his own family. He deeply regrets this dishonesty, especially because he also betrayed his wife by being unfaithful. (126 characters)

Given the circumstances, I’ve chosen to relinquish my role at the British Soap Awards, my final public duty, and I’m terminating my employment with ITV effective immediately. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the incredible chances they’ve provided me.

I’ll take some time to think deeply about the poor decisions I made, first by getting involved in that relationship, and secondly, by choosing to lie about it.

What has ITV said about Phillip Schofield and the matter of his exit?

What happened with Phillip Schofield? This Morning exit explained

After Philip Schofield left “This Morning,” Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, expressed: “Philip is undeniably one of the greatest broadcasters from his generation, and we are grateful for the exceptional television he provided us for two decades on ‘This Morning.’s couch.

The morning show you see is carefully crafted by an exceptional and hardworking team in the television industry. They’re responsible for broadcasting more than 12 hours of live TV every week.

We’re excited about carrying on our partnership with Philip, starting at the British Soap Awards in June and moving forward to a fresh prime-time series.

Following Philip Schofield’s confession about misleading various parties concerning his affair with a previous coworker during his tenure at This Morning, an ITV representative stated on May 16th, 2023: “We are profoundly disappointed by the revelations of dishonesty shared by Phillip Schofield tonight.

They went on to say, “Our professional ties rely heavily on trust. Unfortunately, Philip promised things that he now admits were false, leaving us feeling deceived.

His resignation has been accepted at ITV, which means he won’t be seen on the network as was earlier announced.

Back in 2020, there were whispers about a potential relationship between Philip Schofield and an ITV colleague, and as a movie-loving enthusiast, I’d say we later found out that these rumors were indeed looked into by ITV itself.

In early 2020, when whispers about a possible relationship between Phillip Schofield and an ITV staff member started, ITV looked into the matter. (Paraphrased)

The conversation proceeded with this point: “Both sides were asked about the speculations, and they both unequivocally and consistently refuted them. This included Philip’s management agency, YMU, at that time.

Moreover, ITV consulted several individuals involved in the production of This Morning, yet found no substantial evidence supporting a relationship beyond unsubstantiated gossip and whispers.

Yesterday’s declaration by Philip suggests that he deceived not only the senior management and his co-presenters at ITV, but also the representatives at YMU, the media, and various other individuals regarding this particular relationship.

On Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, ITV appointed an attorney to perform an independent examination of how they managed the probe into the Schofield case.

In simple terms, the CEO of the network (Dame Carolyn McCall) wrote letters to both the broadcasting regulatory body (Ofcom) and the UK government.

The findings from the prior examination indicate that ITV looked into allegations about Philip Schofield and an ITV employee having a relationship, which started spreading towards the end of 2019 and continued into early 2020.

Both sides were asked about the rumors at that time, and they both unequivocally and persistently stated they weren’t true. Philip’s representative agency, YMU, also denied it.

Furthermore, ITV consulted several individuals involved in the This Morning and broader Daytime group, yet they didn’t discover or receive any substantial proof to suggest a genuine relationship beyond unsubstantiated gossip and hearsay.

Despite persistent whispers, we’ve been persistently seeking clarification from both sides, with neither admitting the allegations up to just this past month.

Given the numerous errors in the news, I figured it’d be helpful to present some truths instead.

In the letter, it’s mentioned that I started my journey with This Morning back in 2015 when I was only 19, doing work experience. Fast forward to 2016, at the age of 20, I managed to secure a position as a runner on the show after applying for the job.

Afterward, he managed to get and keep a promotion to the show “Loose Women” in the year 2019. However, he parted ways with ITV in 2021.

Given the public eye he’s under due to social media scrutiny, I’ve been standing by his side since the beginning, offering my support, and I continue to do so today.

It’s important to note that the employee prefers to remain anonymous in relation to this issue. Please respect his preference for privacy.

Our professional connections rely heavily on trust. Unfortunately, Philip has admitted that promises he made to us and his organization were false, leaving us disappointed.

We’ve asked Jane Mulcahy KC from Blackstone Chambers to conduct an independent investigation to uncover the truth.

She’ll examine our documents, consult with those who are part of the situation, and assess our related procedures and guidelines to determine if any adjustments or reinforcements are necessary.

Since Philip has confessed to the full extent of his deceit, our investigation will expand to address any additional concerns that might surface. We’ll work diligently to complete this task as swiftly as we can, and we look forward to updating you on the results.

On June 1st, 2023, Dame McCall was summoned to appear before the United Kingdom’s Culture, Media, and Sports Committee (CMS) in parliament.

The Parliamentary committee announced that McCall was expected to attend, primarily to address queries regarding the broadcaster’s methods for protecting information and managing complaints.

I now want to express my gratitude for his wisdom, expertise, and humor. The chair won’t feel quite as comfortable without him.
