Ever since the debut of the original Final Destination movie in 2000, this horror franchise has garnered recognition for its chilling premonition sequences and ingenious death scenes. However, what remains consistently present throughout the series is none other than Tony Todd.
From the initial entry onwards, the actor consistently appears in the movies portraying the enigmatic mortician William Bludworth. In the latest installment, Final Destination: Bloodlines, he comes back for a ghostly appearance after his character’s demise.
As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but express my deep appreciation for his presence during our filmmaking journey. Despite battling an illness while we were crafting this project, his eagerness to be part of the movie was palpable, even in the face of adversity.
In case you haven’t watched the movie yet, or if you’re just a bit fuzzy about the plot details, you may find yourself pondering the fate of the character in his last scene.

What happens to William Bludworth in Final Destination: Bloodlines?
In the course of the movies, Bludworth makes an appearance, often for a short while, to share secrets and strategies concerning immortality. However, it is only in this latest installment that we discover the reason behind his extensive knowledge on the subject.
It appears that Bludworth is among the rare individuals who have defied death’s grasp, having found a way to survive it himself. In the movie’s captivating prologue, set at a lively dance soiree in the Skyview Restaurant Tower, I catch a glimpse of a young child present, one of those spared by Iris’s urgent call to evacuate the tower following her visionary premonition.
It turns out that the child known as JB is actually Bludworth in disguise. This revelation means that he’s been destined for death throughout this period, yet due to the fact that Iris was supposed to die before him, his life was protected so long as she managed to evade death successfully.
In the movie, Bludworth appears following Stefani’s discovery of a note mentioning JB in Iris’s journal. After tracing him, they locate him at the hospital where he currently works. Upon encountering him, he reveals that he and Iris have been keeping in touch since that significant night and have been brainstorming methods to outwit death.
Following his sharing of research with Stefani and her team, he additionally discloses a heavy truth: he’s gravely ill and anticipates his days are numbered, more so now that Iris has left us. He acknowledges that he will step away to fully appreciate the time remaining, expressing: “Life is valuable. Savor every moment. You never know when it might end.
Moving forward with our discussion on the scene, co-director Lipovsky elaborated, “This offered us an opportunity to delve deeper into his character, who has appeared in all the movies, by providing him with a richer past.
To give him a more dynamic personality instead of just a mentor-like figure, and to provide some background detail about his identity, which he seemed quite enthusiastic about.
Additionally, ensure he gets a chance to bid farewell. During our filming of that particular scene, we understood that it might be his final appearance in the “Final Destination” series, and possibly his last role in any movie altogether.
The storyline revolved around the concept that Bludworth might be bidding farewell to the characters, yet on a deeper note, it was also hinting at his parting from the viewers.
