What is Promo Card 008 in Pokémon TCG Pocket? Missing card explained

As a dedicated gamer with over two decades of Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) experience under my belt, the reveal of the elusive Promo-A 008 card in Pokémon TCG Pocket has sent waves of nostalgia and excitement coursing through me. Since the early days of collecting Charizards and Blastoise cards, I’ve been captivated by the mystery surrounding this long-awaited addition to my collection.

I remember when the very first promo card was introduced in 1999 – the Pikachu Illustrator card – and the thrill of finding rare cards like the Shining Charizard or the Gold Star Raikou, which seemed almost impossible to obtain. Now, here I am, still chasing after that elusive #008 Promo-A card, this time in a digital format.

The fact that it’s an alternate art version of the Pokédex card designed by Yuu Nishida makes it even more appealing, as I’ve always been a fan of his work. I can almost feel the satisfaction of finally adding it to my collection, filling that gaping hole in the Promo-A section of my digital deck.

As for how to obtain this coveted card, DENA and The Pokémon Company have yet to reveal the secret. But judging by the card’s description as being “obtained from a campaign,” I’m keeping my eyes peeled for any upcoming events or promotions that might offer a chance at snagging it.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to play, collect, and strategize, hoping that one day soon, I’ll be able to say with pride: “I finally caught ’em all – even the elusive Promo-A 008 card!” And as a final thought, I can’t help but chuckle at the irony of spending countless hours in pursuit of a digital Pokémon card when I still have boxes full of physical ones gathering dust in my basement. Ah, the joys of being a lifelong gamer!

As a longtime fan of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), I can attest to the excitement and intrigue that surrounds the unveiling of new cards, especially the rare Promo-A 008 card. Having followed the TCG since its inception in the mid-90s, I’ve seen my fair share of mysteries surrounding cards, but none quite like this one. The anticipation has been building ever since the announcement of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s release in October 2024, and I can only imagine the thrill it would bring to finally uncover the identity of Promo-A 008. It’s these moments that make collecting and playing the game all the more enjoyable, and I eagerly await the big reveal.

At present, there are 33 designated spots for ‘A’ series promotional cards, which could increase through expansion packs and drop events. However, slot number 8 among these remains vacant.

However, we now have the answer to add to our list of TCGP Promo-A cards.

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve learned that patience is often key to reaping the rewards of this hobby we love. Although it may be tempting to add that coveted item to your collection right away or stumble upon it as a secret prize in the various Secret Missions, I’ve found that keeping an eye out for upcoming game updates can sometimes lead to even greater finds. Over the years, I’ve discovered hidden gems and exclusive rewards by staying vigilant and eagerly anticipating new content. So, my fellow gamers, let’s exercise a bit of patience and keep our eyes peeled for those exciting updates!

What is Pokémon TCG Pocket’s 008 Promo-A card?

The image on the left in the provided picture next to the original 004 design by Ryo Ueda depicts an unique variation of the Pokédex card within the Promo-A set of Pokémon TCG Pocket, which is a special artwork version created by Yuu Nishida.

You can spot this card yourself by carrying out the following steps whilst in the game:

  • Select the “My Cards” tab
  • Press the toggle by the search option to break down your collection into sets
  • Scroll down to one of the other Trainer cards in the Promo-A section
  • Select one of the Item cards eg Potion, Poké Ball, Pokédex (original), etc
  • On the card’s information, scroll down to “Related Cards”
  • The greyed-out Pokédex card done by Nishida will be found next to Red Card

In simpler terms, the Promo-A 008 Pokédex card functions identically to the 004 promo card available in the in-game store upon trading two shop tickets. It grants you the ability to peek at the topmost three cards from your deck.

Is there a way to get Promo Card 8 in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

As a fellow gamer, I can confirm that snagging the Promo-A 008 version of the Pokédex card in Pokémon TCG Pocket isn’t an option at the moment. However, we do have some hints about its potential release in the future. Stay tuned for updates!

According to TCGP, you can acquire this specific Pokédex variant through a promotional campaign.

It seems that the card hasn’t been obtained by anyone so far, as the creators of the game (DENA and The Pokémon Company) have not disclosed or made it available yet.

Since the card itself is available in the game, though, we suspect that it will be revealed soon.

As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that the description of the Pikachu card I recently received matches the one given to the New Year Event variant, which is awarded for simply logging in.

As a seasoned Pokémon Trainer with years of battling and collecting under my belt, I can barely contain my excitement for the upcoming New Year event! Having been through countless adventures, I know all too well the thrill of unlocking new cards in my beloved Pokémon TCG Pocket collection. This time, it’s the long-awaited #008 version of the Pokédex card that has me on the edge of my seat. It’s been a gaping hole in my Promo-A section for far too long, and I can only hope that this event will finally be the key to filling it! Bring it on, 2023 – I’m ready for another unforgettable journey in the world of Pokémon!
