As a seasoned critic with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say, the unspoken rule among us cinephiles is to let the magic unfold on its own. But alas, some fans seem to have forgotten that golden rule when it comes to cameos.
Although we strongly discourage people from revealing spoiler cameos, thereby ruining the experience for others, it’s puzzling why some viewers think it’s acceptable to film a cameo on their phone and share it online. This isn’t really spoiling a cameo that didn’t take place in the end. Let’s speculate about what the Tony Stark cameo could have been in Deadpool, had it materialized, and imagine how Wolverine’s cameo might have unfolded under similar circumstances.
In a recent chat, the brilliant duo, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, hinted at the prospect of a Tony Stark appearance. As a huge fan, I’m eagerly anticipating this potential cameo!
REESE… It appears we were considering that idea. The Marvel Cinematic Universe seemed to have more extensive plans for Downey, as we’ve recently discovered (which is about Doctor Doom). I believe this is the reason it didn’t materialize, although I don’t possess the exact reason for its non-occurrence. There were discussions. It was intended to feature Downey and Jon Favreau in a scene together.
WERNICK: There is a script. We have the Downey draft.
REESE Ryan scripted a scene featuring Downey, and it was just the two of them. However, if Downey chooses not to participate or Marvel decides against having him, the scene would be adjusted for Happy Hogan instead. Jon Favreau was understanding during this uncertainty, eventually accepting an expanded role. We appreciated the idea of Stark being present, but we also comprehend why it didn’t materialize due to Downey quickly adopting the Dr. Doom persona shortly after our film release. This unexpected turn of events became the path we had not anticipated initially.
